Weight of a Typhoon?

Thinking about towing my Typhoon to the Nationals this year. What is the weight of a Typhoon? Will a 5600 lb towing capacity handle the Ty plus a trailer?

I think it's been established that a Sy weighs in at 3550 lbs but I couldn't find anything about a Ty.

It's either 3600 or 3800 lbs. curb weight...a 5600 lb. trailer should do quite fine. I was thinking of doing the same thing come Nats time.

Sounds close 3800 + trailer (1-2000)
What is the tow vehical?
Do you have a weight distributing hitch?

Tow vehicle is either 2wd Blazer or Astro AWD van. No trailer yet. Not sure what a "weight distributing hitch" is.

I pulled a 5000lb trailer with a '99 AWD Safari for a Summer. It pulled it...reluctantly. And I have the gas bills to prove it. 7mpg on the highway if I recall. Warped the rotors too cause I just could not seem to get the brakes set properly.

Weight distrubition bars transfer some of the tongue weight to the front wheels. They are very handy for heavy loads and light tow vehicles. You NEVER want to have zero or even close to zero tongue weight, unless you are on a suicide mission. I always like to tow with 500 or more lbs of tongue weight when towing a car. If the 500 lbs drops back to far, get the dist bars. DO NOT try to get less tongue weight. The trailer will DRIVE you, not what you want.

Properly set up, trailers will follow you, and you won't notice except for lack of power... In properly you better get friendly with ditch. Ask around, I think a syty'er did that on way to nats before...

not like I have never done it.... LOL

Yeah, tongue weight is the key.

I pulled my Ty to GB with a 5.9RT Dakota.
No Distrib hitch but I added airbags to the rear axle to hold the weight up.

Managed to run about 70-73 the whole way.
9 hours white knuckling the steering wheel, Damn it couldn't get over fast enough.

The trailer I pulled had surge brakes ( which were fine) so I couldnt use weight distrib hitch and didn't need the electronics.

The trailer was in perfect working order and the truck was excessively tied down.Im driving in this year, fuggit.

I towed my Sy from Kentucky to GB to Orlando. I used my '91 4x4 4 door 4400 pound Blazer and the trailer weighed 1800. It had the load leveling bars and made towing quite easily. I got 13.5 mpg going 65 mph. I got 11.5 mpg going 80-85 all the way home from the NATS. It took 26 hours straight to get from middle of nowhere Great Bend,Kansas to home sweet home Orlando, Florida.

I would take the 2wd Blazer over the AWD Astro for sure. As long as they're both 4.3, take the lighter one.

HTH,

I would look into using a tow dolly like Daron used for GB, he seemed to like it beter, and it is alot lighter!
