Re: Help me convince

Remember if it's a 911 turbo the tune ups take about 8hrs and set aside 2-3k a year for repairs just in case something goes down. ;)

A 12 year old German built sports car.
Hope you got the finances to just service it , never mind the inevitable repair bills.
Just for fun price a starter or alternator or water pump.OOOOOOPOOHHHHHHH:tdown:

Alternator's about $350. Water pump's about $260. I don't think that's outrageous. Starter's almost $750, but they rarely go out.

Re: Help me convince

I work on them all day long. Do not buy a Turbo prior to 2004. There is a reason they are at the bottom of the 911 Turbo price range. Google the problems, you bettter have deep pockets. Nothing is cheap to fix on them.

Nothing major changed between '01 and '05 that I'm aware of. The major issues to look out for are going to be 2nd gear pop-out and coolant pipe leakage. Clutch accumulators fail, but that's a GT2 slave cylinder mod takes care of that.

LS7 Vette all day long!!!! Not Much Slower than a ZR1 but Imagine a 427 Force Inducted. I like Porches n all and I'm sure one would be fun but 7.0 please.

Crazy how much Porsche love there is here, wasn't expecting that.

I've driven a couple and sat in a few more, they're just not my cup-o-tea. I'd go Vette all day, everyday.

Why 2002? Obviously, I agree with the C5Z06 being the best bang for proverbial dolla, but why the '02?

^^I was gonna ask the same thing. I went to check and see if that was the first year for them, but that was 2001...at least that is what was on Ebay.

2001 only had 385 hp, 2002-2004 had 405. Jimmy is right, best bang for the buck car out there. I'm looking for one to replace my C4 and C5 Coupes. Has to be red, completely stock with the red/black interior. "All Corvettes are red, the rest are mistakes" John Heinricy, Corvette lead development test driver @1996

Re: Help me convince

I have had the privilege of owning a 911 Turbo and now my 07 Z06.

Hands down, the Z06 is a wayyy better car. It is the most balanced car I have ever driven and it begs for action in competition mode without a hint of giving up.

Don't get me wrong; Porsche is on top of their game but if you ever get a 911 Turbo sideways, you are toast (unless you have trained yourself NOT to lift on the accelerator, which takes hours of practice). Under aggressive driving in the twisties, the 911 Turbo tends to push the front end under acceleration through the apex of a turn (like most Porsches). However, if you are not into going fast and like standing out, then yes, the 911T could fit the bill. Bear in mind, the specific model you are considering has NO warranty and yes, they are pricey to maintain.

All the best whichever way you go.

I gotcha. What is the difference in the motors that makes up the 20hp? I have to disagree with you on the red though...I want a silver one, but that is just me. Hell, for the right price, I will take a yellow one.

Re: Help me convince

From Wiki

Starting with the 2002 model year, the LS6 engine was uprated to 405 horsepower (302 kW) by means of a larger volume air intake, stiffer valve springs, lighter sodium filled valves, more aggressive cam phasing and lift, revised pistons, and revised block. While Chevrolet officially claimed that the ultimate power output of the LS6 was 405 horsepower (302 kW), many dynamometer tests have shown that Chevrolet underrated the engine by 20 hp (15 kW), giving it an actual total of 425 horsepower (317 kW).
