Re: Procharger

mach performance made a kit for the s10's. it mainly put trucks in the mid 13's on 8lbs? with stock engines. i know of atleast one guy that was running low 12's with his, obviously more boost though.

Re: Procharger

Prochargers are driven from the crank. That means that the larger the Procharger, the more load it places on the crank. If its a D1-SC, not too big a deal since its belt-driven. It will put stress on the front main and the balancer better be good (poorly-designed balancers with Prochargers tend to spin). As you get larger in their lineup (F-series), the load grown dramatically. It is also good to note that these types of power adders consume power. In a test conducted at Steve Morris' shop, we were able to measure that an F3R-139 unit at 35# of boost consumes over 1000hp.

Since our trucks are already setup to run turbo, its the most feasible system to run.

Re: Procharger

Turbochargers are way more efficient becasue they use exhaust gas to spin the turbine. I had a 1991 Z28 that had an old Paxton SN 2000 with a VR4 upgrade. I had AFR heads, cam..... she pushed out 638hp at the wheels. If I would have had compromible turbocharger on this setup, my Z28 would have pushed much more power as the power comes from the exhaust gases, the supercharger relies upon the crank to turn the impeller.

Prior to this engine, I had my crankshaft bust at the nose from the stresson the belt drive system. I never had "balancing issues with my Z28, but a busted crank snout forced me to rebuild my engine.....which I did not mind sine I stepped things up which I did not mid all that much:D

I am curious. How did you measure this? And the followup question is: How much power was being created on the test motor. 35# of boost is a lot. If it took a 1000 HP to spin the blower, I would imagine the motor was in the 2500 to 3000 HP range. But that is a SWAG.

Re: Procharger

Prochargers are great superchargers. I considered one (D1SC) for my Z and regaret going with the paxton. The procharger is a much better design and produces great gains. I choose a supercharger instead of a turbocharger simply because the cost for a turbo set up was alomst doubble for a supercharger system. If both were the same price, I definatley would have turbocharged the car.
