looking to remove the dash main harness from the fuse panel all the way across. can it be done with the dash in , or does it need to be removed? mine has been cut and spliced in so many spots , that i've come to the conclusion that removing is my best bet right now. as of right now speedo cluster is out,all switches, and climate controls are removed. any and all tips are appreciated before i start yanking on it and screw something else up. There are a few metal brackets that screw into the dash from the back side that hold the harness to it. Do not start "yanking" on it. I just pulled the dash this weekend in mine, due to have spliced wires everywhere as well as some other issues.

yanking was just slang. (yank the motor) can you get to the nuts without removeing the dash?

Not likely, you'll have to remove the dash. Typically there are "zip ties" built into the back of the dash that the wiring is attached with. Easiest way that I've read about (probably deleted at this point), is to disconnect the bulk head connector from the engine side and push the white portion into the cab.

While you may not have to it might be easier to remove the glove box door, radio, and cluster. It might help give you access to the back side to support things. There's also 2 bolts holding the steering column up that when removed may make it easier to pull the dash with the column down a bit.

Probably want to remove the ECM first too, but may not be required? Even if you left the dash installed, getting the wiring down and out would be a supreme pain in the ass with all the ducting in the way. Take pics along the way.

Here's some links:

You can ignore the DesertSy revival thread. DaveP deleted all that shit. Hell, looks like a bunch of those links are dead. The biggest piece of advice DaveP gave was to pull the fuse box with the dash by pushing it into the cab.

Personally, I'd pull everything I could before pulling the dash. You probably don't have to but that's how I'd do it.

Re: pulling main dash harness

It is almost impossible to remove and replace the wiring without pulling the dash, there was a great write up by davep on how to do this, but in a nutshell: remove the 2 small screws on the engine side of the fuse box and drop it into the cab. Pull the steering column out(a must). Undo the 4 10mm dash bolts underneath(1 each side, 1 in middle and one at steering column. Undo the 4 8mm at the dash vents. Undo the door light connectors each side of dash(white wires). Remove the little trap door in the glove box and undo the heat door cable. Have a buddy help you pull the dash back slightly to access the vac line in the middle at firewall and the hvac connector. As long as you haven't added much wiring yourself this should be all you need to do. The radio and gauge cluster do not have to be removed this way, neither do the light panel and the hvac panel(which is a pain in the ass anyways). Pull the entire dash out, lay it upside down on the bench and pull the wiring out.

appreciate replys and when i get a little time it will be done...in the AC business and season is here.
gotta get the money while you can, so the truck is on the back burner for a little bit...side note, no
jackstands here. sitting a few feet in the air on a lift so the tires won't flat spot.

Thought of a couple of more steps I forgot in the last post. Unplug all the plugs on the top half of the fuse panel, and unplug the computer and drac.

And the two plugs under the console going up under the carpet behind the floor vents.
