Is that a Vette hiding under the cover there in the background?

Also, what type of elbow is that on the turbo to air filter?

Update: 3/21/04

New roof has been installed. We took apart the old roof and anylized the rust we found. I wanted to know why it was there, and how to prevent it from re-occurring.

Did the same for the whole body, as well.

Here are a few shots in Primer Stage.

The roof, because of the adhesive on the crossmembers, had to be peeled off like a sardine can

Yeah we saved the roof, so I'll take a few shots for the portfolio before disposal.

Front clip is off and getting that primed and ready for paint.

Purchased materials for re-installation of the cladding (rivets, anti-rubbing material, etc)

Roof is layered with lightweight sound deadener; rest of truck comes later.

Thats it for now I guess. No cool pictures right now. Going to wait until the project is finished.

Truck should be back from paint/body beginning of next month and fully completed by May.

:D

Its done.

BTW, we used pinstripe inside the cladding to create a smoother surface for the cladding to "breath".

Here is a shot of the truck now:
113_1367_IMG.jpg

What you see here is where we looked at all the possibilities for future rust areas. Truck was stripped down, undercoated in those areas and painted if necessary; Mostly areas hidden by cladding. We also concluded the truck built before this one was red in color. We could see a pink/purpleish hue on the front of the truck which gradually faded to white towards the rear. After some research, GM does NOT purge the paint guns during a color change. woohoo for me

Three coats of PPG "DCC Concept" Paint fixed that problem. The above shot is before we buffed it for the 1st time. No clear, as it tends to yellow over time.

Thought about sound deadener for the roof, but all we really wanted to achieve was to cut down on condensation possibilities so we went with a super light weight material that gave us what we needed.

This material is aluminum coated and we've concluded it will cut down noise as well. Sure enough, driving it today eliminated the rattle that was haunting me for some time :D

I'll be working on a chronological gallery, so you guys can see the entire build from start to finish. I'm still waiting for some Photo CDs to get done, showing the truck in "panoramic roof" stage.

...More to come

Your Ty looks great Merk. It should be nice and quiet inside now...unlike everybody elses. Ill send you pics of my '63 after i finish the motor swap. Itll show you what your paint will look like after 12 years of sitting in the sun. It will still buff out after all of that time.

Dang that's a good looking Ty, it looks mint. I hope there wont be to much pep boys add ons to ruin it's beauty.

Nah. Pep Boys suck.

Thanks for the comments though.

Truck was/is built to retain its stockness yet improve a few weak points.

Every bolt, nut and screw removed was replaced in the exact same place from where it came.

Took me FOREVER to find the correct rivets. Genuine GM parts were used wherever possible.

Restorations usually lead to owners selling the finished product. Too nice to drive? Hope this does not happen to me.

Okay Folks-

ask and you shall recieve:

finally gave the thing a wash . Last items to do is to install the fender cladding, and align the front bumper. Heavy rain was on the way, so I had to quit.

I'm real happy with the way things turned out. It's always nice to think this typhoon was hand built from the ground up.
