Alarm/Remote start

I want to see what people have in there cars and trucks as of an alarm. My typhoon just has the standard lock and unlock with the original FOB and the 92 chevy blazer i bought doesnt have anything. I want to put in a remote start on the blazer. I really dont care if it has an alarm but the remote start i need. I dont think i can just install a remote start with out an alarm i think it is all into one but what do people recommend on the cheapest side possible. There are so many on ebay i have no idea where to start. I have had Pythons that never gave me a problem and my friend has a aladen which i heard is very good but again i dont need to much.

thanks midnightblu for showing me that but for that price i am probably better off just getting the whole dame package. i do appreciate the help.

If you go with a Viper, go for the whole shootin' match...aka fully optioned most expensive model. The previous owner of my truck put the cheapest, low end Viper on it and I hate the POS. :rant: Set's itself after 30 seconds, regardless. You can't disarm the dumb thing. Can't use the "radar" because it's over sensitive. Hand car wash sets it off. :roll: If you're loading, unloading, working on the truck, you either have to leave the door open, or unhook the battery so the alarm doesn't set then go off when you forget it set itself. :rant:

Thanks Phoon but this is going to be be for my daily driver. a 92 chevy blazer. As for the typhoon the original FOB works great and that is the way it is going to stay. I dont need a remote start for the ty but for my daily drivers in the winter time when i leave at 5:30am no way in hell am i going to wait in the truck while it warms up. I havent done that in the last 4 years. Every daily driver i have had either came with a remote start or i had it installed. This one i am going to install it myself.

setting itself after 30 seconds is a programmablefeature that can be turned off.

call me and i can walk you thru how to change from passive arming to active arming.

i sell viperand i can tell you the features are darn near the same from the bottom end to the top end.

awesome! :tup: The guy I bought the Ty from showed me the "how to" with the alarm, but it didn't involve passive/active timing or anything. It was basically, this is on, this is off. I'll look up the mo. number and get in touch!

the compustar 2wssas is the only one to go with i have sold these 2 several guys on here,there is not a system on the market that compares the distance for range is over a mile tested pm me if u want one.

You can get a stand alone remote start and even use your factory key fob to activate it. You can set it up to hit the lock three times to activate it or hold them both down for three seconds or whatever. Pretty cool if you don't want an alarm but the downside is the range on the factory remotes. Most are pretty week and with the aftermarket ones (the good ones at least) you get much better range out of an antenna that you mount where the headliner meets the windshield.

I would highly recommend anything made by DEI and stay AWAY from no name units. You get what you pay for and DEI is the #1 manufacturer in alarm systems and have been doing it right for years and years now. DEI will either be labeled that or Python or Viper (they like snake names) or something to that affect but will be manufactured by DEI. That's my two cents anyway.

Couldn't have said it better myself. My family only uses the DEI two way alarms. We have them on at least 5 different vehicles. All of which function flawlessly. Just make sure someone somewhat intelligent is installing it!

what is a good price for a remote start and alarm installed...my guy gave me a # like 300 for a good one and 400 if i wanted the pager one ...does this sound like a good price?

for a basic system that sounds about right ,we get 699 for a compustar spread spectrum dei stuff is also good the only thing with a compustar spread spectrum is the distance over amile of range no company out there period has that distance none,also the compustar has a pageing system and a built in turbo timer.and tons of other options

Yeah, that's about right for an alarm install. Labor runs about the same (if not more for the cheaper ones) so you might as well get a good quality alarm. Be thankful you don't have a newer vehicle because that price easily doubles with the added labor to work around all the BS that is in them.
