awd 6-speed

I have a BW T-56 6-speed that has been modified (lots & lots) to work in a SY. The truck will be down for a few months (piston failure). Is anyone interested in trying to reverse engineer this setup? I didn't build it, just own it. The truck averaged 25mpg in the 2000 miles I've put on it. "They" tell me that's unheard of milage for a SY.

What kind of RPMs are you turning at 70mpg in top gear?

I bet the gearing is where you are picking up a ton of mpg.

I wouldnt say its unheard of, I used to get 22 - 23 MPG before I started screwing around it, but even still I got 22 MPG coming back from St Louis in 2WD mode.

I dont think I would sacrafice that much performance to gain a few MPG.

Re: awd 6-speed

my only hesitation is, the rated torque of the T56.

I researched it quite a bit before deciding on the 80e. The T-56 is a great trans, but the SERIOUS HP trucks need to be concerned. AWD and big HP/TQ will induce some issues I think..

This mod is hella cool and HAS to up the fun to drive factor

by reverse engineering do you mean you have the t56 in and want an automatic back in?

I'd say he wants the T-56 back in, just wants to know if anyone wants to look at the critical parts while its apart.. Thats my guess anyhow..

I really think this mod would bump up the fun to drive factor on the right truck..

EDIT: It should also be noted, that NVG has some other transmissions (mostly 5speeds) out there with alot higher Torque ratings than the T56. It could be done and some are even for 4x4 applications. Not sure how quick you can shift them either (compared to the T56).. I have seen conversion kits for the T56 to make it hold approximately 650hp/lb ft but stock is quite a bit lower (around 450-500 lb ft)

This transmission is good for a stockish to medium build truck.. But very expensive to acquire and mod..

A little searching and i found it indeed is already a 6 speed. not to mention super and turbocharged:shocked!: i would think that not only would the 6 speed be fun, but you could really utilize using the supercharger a little better with the t56, maybe not just a thought. Only downside i see to having a 6 speed in it would be that it would be less consistant on the drag strip. What kind of trans are you looking to put in?? not a 700 i hope

Re: awd 6-speed

I'm putting the T-56 back in and the turbo is coming off. It's embarrassing to say but it's going to be a daily driver. No racing.

Nothing embarassing about making it your daily driver.. A little TLC and it will be fine, the truck was rough but the basics were there (from the pics I saw anyhow)..

Curious tho,

As to why the truck was sold all of a sudden (wasnt the previous owner going to run it in SilverState ?)

And

Why you are keeping supercharger and dumping the turbo ??

Re: awd 6-speed

W/ the 8psi generated by the blower the repaired engine should last forever. Doing away w/ the turbo "may" help w/ mpg and gives Waller a super-trick set of headers for his TY. As for the quick sale, the former owner/builder (currently addicted to crack) called me up 3 months ago and said "If you want the Syclone bring me $3000." 9am next day I had a new toy w/ an A-title.

Say NO to drugs!!!!!!!!

I think I'll hang on to it for a few more days. Can you imagine what the "thing" would bring on e-bay parted-out?!

about the same as they usually go for. Not sure how much of a mess that engine is, but the only parts worth money on it are the intake and exhaust manifolds, everything else is normal 4.3L or special parts like the pistons and main caps that people ditch in favor of better parts. Past that, the cladding, seats and gauge cluster are the only real big money parts, not to mention you'll probably lose a lot of respect from people on here, if you care about that sorta thing.

Trust me, I will not part it out. To me it's a piece of history and they ain't making any more. Didn't mean to step on any toes. Sorry...

I'd give up a performance hit for the fun factor. I've been kicking the idea around for awhile.
I am in 100% agreement.....Fun to drive is 200% more important than the .5-.75 in the 1/4 I would lose with the stick shift.
