B&M Torque Converters ?

Hey, i did a search and really didnt find anything about B&M torque converters here. I know of only one person using one and he has clicking sounds.

But my question is... Is a B&M converter okay for a near stock Ty that is mainly a daily driver, but about once every 3 months might go to the drag strip? I was looking at the B&M Tork Master 2400. It says its for 4.3L's. Summit part number BMM-70418 .

I tried to find it, but what is the stock converters stall rpm?

Or can anyone recommend any other lower dallor converters? I dont have the time or money to get a $900 converter when a $300 converter will work just the same.

Re: B&M Torque Converters ?

How many of those you got George? I would like a nice solid 3K stall for my clone, but don't want to spend a small fortune on it (I'm a cheap ass) :rotf:

I can't go over 2500 stall for that price and retain lockup. Sorry. I don't know if you want a 3K stall for a daily driver anyway(if it is a daily driver).

The Hughes converters are only $400 through www.paceparts.com

I would stay away from the B&M converters.
I threw ine in the trash when I took it out after only a couple months.

$150 +shipping. Email me.
Is that for a B&M or your own converters? Either way I'm very interested can you give me some details?

Thanks.

EDIT: I'll email you when i get off work.

Re: B&M Torque Converters ?

George, why do you suggest not using a 3K stall for a daily driver? is it because of the xtra heat generated by a higher stall converter? or is it harder on the trans itself?

Re: B&M Torque Converters ?

They take more throttle to make the truck move from a stop. Daily stop light driving will kill gas mileage. With them talking about gas being $3.50 a gallon, it's probably not a good idea. They do generate more heat but you have to use an additional cooler when going to a high stall (most people know that). If you've ever been stuck in a traffic jam on a slight upgrade with a 3000 stall you'll know what I'm talking about. 2800 stall is about the max. If you get used to the 3K you'll learn to stab the throttle a bit but I wouldn't go over 2800 if you want to drive it every day. You'd probably be happier with a 2600. Those are more expensive though. $650 + shipping.

Re: B&M Torque Converters ?

On a B&M lock-up stall converter it will drive and feel like normal just when you go to brake torque it it will stall at little higher and then when you rop on it it will flash stall (depending on torque) to it flash rating of 2400rmp. Mine is clicking becuz of a factory defect wich it will soon get warrented out for a good on my first one, it stall functions properly just clicks. Other than that I like it.

Re: B&M Torque Converters ?

i give the hughes converter a big thumbs up . no issues with drivability and the price was right . and i can stall it to right around 3200rpm and get a 15 lb boost launch anytime .

Re: B&M Torque Converters ?

I dont really understand what it feels like when your converter "stalls". I always thought a stall at 3K meant your tranny didnt take off until your engine hit 3k rpm , but that would be insane.... like dropping the clutch at 3k on a manual right?! Please explain to me, thanks ---

Re: B&M Torque Converters ?

well 3k stall makes the turbo spool earlier, but it has a funny side effect, once you just go easy on the throttle, there is a small lag.
but it goes like a mofo when the turbo spools

Re: B&M Torque Converters ?

I got a 3000k, ****in sucks gas like a MOFO, like 11 mpg or so, gotta be one of the craziest upgrades I ever did, it does flash right up to around 3000 with just a little touch of the throttle, you have to cruise at that much to get the correct power to the ground during normal driving, kinda sucks. :2cents:

Re: B&M Torque Converters ?

OK,

so I have a 20G in the truck now with a stock converter -

If I want to make use of the power, I need to upgrade the converter to a stall of around 3000?

If I want to have good mileage, I need to keep the stock converter?

Is that about right?

What converter should i get - let's be realistic; you don't buy these trucks for the mileage!

Thanks,

Mark
