Boost in Park

hey everyone
I have a strange problem, i am getting boost in park, just reving up the motor and it will boost. I did the normal tune up and found a problem where it looked like my fuel was cutting out at high rpm, so i thought that i might have messed up a vac line, so i replace the vac lines and now i have this problem. to top it off it seems like i still have the hesitation. any ideas?

Re: Boost in Park

Sounds like you're running lean or too little timing. If you haven't done anything that can affect your timing have you verified your fuel pressure regulator has a good manifold vacuum signal and that fuel pressure is properly adjusting with MAP changes?

Re: Boost in Park

i haven't done anything to mess with the timing, i have base fuel pressure set at 49 lbs. how would i go about checking the vac signal and map changes. I appreciate the help.

Re: Boost in Park

Boost can be only be made under load. A free rev engine will not build bopost. You can create a load on an engine with a Rev limiter. If your problems aren't creating a rev limiter, then I would guess the boost gauge off (are you using the factory boost gauge?)

Re: Boost in Park

problems may or may not be related...the boost in park i'd guess has something to do with the vac. lines you messed with. Something may be backwards, espically near the turbo/selenoid connections, or there could be a leak?

stock chip has a boost cut off. Perhaps it is something that simple?

I don't know, throwing out ideas.

Re: Boost in Park

i am using a autometer boost gauge, i can hear the turbo spool up under the hood, when i am standing there, reving it up. i was chasing a hesitation down when this all started, i did the normal tune up, then i got the hesitation, replaced vacuum lines and still have hesitation plus this???

Re: Boost in Park

i hear it spool under hood, it seems like the hesitation happens right before it starts to spool, i don't know if they are connected or not. might have to sell this thing auughhh

Re: Boost in Park

Mine is starting to do that as well, just cruising through my parking lot but no boost is showing. From what I've heard it is a sign that the turbo may be failing.

Re: Boost in Park

Nope, I can just hear it whine. Didn't always do that but these things do need rebuilt from time to time.

Re: Boost in Park

Lets start with the basics.

Where is your boost gauge plumbed into. As in before or after the throttle plates.

Re: Boost in Park

it is plumbed into the line that the brakes, so after the throttle plates.

Re: Boost in Park

Chip?
Truck stock?
chip change since / or right at time of prob ?
what does the boost gauge read (motor off)?
To check for a bad turbo, 1Take off the inlet to the turbo,2 take a flexi mirior (Idiot Zone) inspect turbo impellare blades for cracks chips ect ect),3 take two fingers and grab ahold of the theaded stud in there....wiggle <----->,4 push and pull on the same shaft forward and aft. (lenght of truck) (horazonaly) 0.040--to--0.060 is on the verge of BAD it will wiggle a little, all do.
5, while you have the inlet off start truck(be sure everthing is clear of turbo!) listen to the turbo inlet for the tell tell CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP of the fins hitting the compressor housing.

POST BACK with results

Re: Boost in Park

Thanks for the info on checking the turbo, I have fixed the problem, it was the wrong map sensor. I am going to still check the turbo. I have a superchip, I am working with Dig on a chip. But it seems like I might just have everything fixed as of now....but we will see how long that lasts.
