when the EGR system has been eliminated, are you guys taking out the functionality of the fueling tables in the ECU? im just wondering if the ECU is trying to make fueling changes based on EGR operation, when there is no EGR.

All I've done is disable the flag.

I'm sure you know the f28 table is your base pulse constant. Only the first value needs to be changed to change your bpc.

As long as the EGR is disabled, the ECM will not adjust for it (timing, fueling, or otherwise). No need to monkey with any of the EGR tables if all you want is to be rid of it. Just set KEGRTEM1 (0x06CD) to an appropriate temp to disable it and you're done.

However, if you want to use it (the EGR code) to your benefit, read what I wrote here:

thats what i needed to know. the EGR system is in the trash, and nothing has been done to the chip.....yet. thanks for the advise.

well i thought i had this tune undercontrol till the temps dropped 40 deg in 2 days and my tune went lean. at idle it went from 13.5 to 14.5 all by itself. how are you guys compensating for change in tempature? i dont see any fueling tables that account for IAT? this cool dry air is causing me all kinds of issues.

it must be a table thats not listed in dig's tunercat definition file :(

i hate having to use 3 different pieces of software just to tune something.
guess ill break out promgrammer when i get home tonight.

Now, F31M.....the most overlooked fueling table, and probably the one you'll wanna look at the most. F31M uses a BPW scalar based solely on MAT temp.....so you could have a reduction in fuel delivery based on a drop in MAT temps. Figure out the average MAT temp with and w/o alky and design the map around that data. Just make sure to give some fuel lead-in and lead-out, so that you don't have abrupt fueling spikes (could lead to rich/lean jumps that promote detonation, etc....). Also, keep in mind that this table uses Kelvin for the temp range, so be sure to convert the temp data before making changes.

just did some more homework, aparently i need to make an ECM definition file so that i can add that fueling table as well as correct a couple of cold start tables that crash tunercar RT when you load them. i guess tunercat isnt as complete as i thought for this ECU. so far i havnt seen anything within tunercat RT that allows me to customize an ECU definition file, but im still looking.

TunerPro is starting to look better and better.....

You need to make piece with tunerpro and get it over with.

The new version will have some new features coming out, you can edit the def. files within tunerpro, unlike tunercat which requries the editor.

And on top of that, it has ALDL built in also.

How are you guys using TunerPro? I tried to use it but can't find a definition file anywhere so I was able to upload a bin to my emulator with it but am unable to actually make any changes with it. Is there a definition file posted on one of the SyTy sites or for sale somewhere?

the guy that wrote it posts at the www.thirdgen.org message board....his name is "mangus" there...his real name is mark...he probably knows more about it than anyone here...you might have to create your own file....might join there and ask him about it...did you take the dfi out?

One thing about the ecm world, most people don't like to just give away answers. Being some things are painful, we like to watch others suffer pain also.

But a big hint will be to go to www.moates.net site.

Blow Me?
Yeah I took my DFI out. It allready runs much better at part throttle, it got rid of the stumble when I initially came off idle. I'll try emailing Mangus, I searched on the third gen site a bit but didn't find anything except posts saying that people used to host links to the definition files but took them down at the request of the guy that made it.

I checked out Moates.net (that's where I bought my emulator) and he has a bunch of files for just about every other ecm out there but none of the 749/$58 stuff. Are there other files I can use as a replacement?

I'm not asking anyone to give anything away, I paid for my hardware, paid for my initial bin, and would be happy to pay for definition files of I could just find someone selling it. I allready bought a definition file for TunerCat accidentally (got tunercat and tunerpro confused).

Is it just the SyTy group that is generally hesitant to share info? I haven't seen any of that with other ecm's. The thirdgen.org group and a few other websites have a ton of definitions, bins, free software and just about anything else you could hope for, it just seems to be missing for the 749 ecm's. Of course I may be looking in the wrong places but I was surprised to hear you say that people are hesitant to share as everything I am reading about other gm ECM's makes it look like people are happy to share their knowledge.

Ok, I feel dumb now. Just realized that 58rr_v12.ecu was what I was looking for. I went to Craig's site a few days ago looking for something and mistakenly bypassed 58rr_v12 thinking it was for some exotic v12 engine

Sure there is.....F31M. Look at what I wrote here (about 1/2 way down):

this table does not appear to be in deg kelvin like it says. if it was the table values would be much larger. for example if it was 50deg F that would be 283.15deg K.

i talked to nolan about this and he said it was a typo and that the table was actually in deg C. which makes a lot more sense given the range of values in the table. unfortunately i cant easily test this idea because that table is only available in PROMGRAMMER. the Tuner cat RT ECU definition file does not have access to that table for some reason. which means i cant make changes in real time and check to see that it does what i believe it does.

so anyway, i just figured id post it here so that if it comes up again people will know that table is not in deg K.

First, the values in F31M table are in Kelvin, not Celsius. Only the column heading is in Celsius. The table from one of BG's 50# bins looks like (turned sideways so things line up easier):

Hot 337.8
136 335.6
107 331.1
91.0 328.9
80.0 326.8
71.0 324.7
63.0 322.6
56.0 320.5
49.3 318.5
43.3 316.5
37.0 314.5
30.5 312.5
23.5 310.6
15.5 308.6
6.0 306.7
-8.5 303.0
Cold 260.4

Second, you can use Promgrammer with an emulator, it's just not quite as convenient as that RT program. Just use Promgrammer to edit and save the bin, then use the emulator software to copy the updated bin to the emulator. The biggest hangup with doing it this way is you might need to turn off the truck before uploading the bin (don't know, don't have an emulator to play with).

As I've mentioned before, if anyone is willing to help me work on a RT version of Promgrammer, I'm willing to try it. I would need to borrow an emulator (or if someone wanted to donate/extended loan one) and would greatly prefer some assistance working on it as well. Unfortunately, my spare time is extremely limited (read: "practically none"), so I don't have time to pursue this solely on my own. Plus, it doesn't really seem like the demand is there for the amount of work that would probably be involved (if there is, let me know).

I like promgrammer really well although I've never tried Tunercat so not much to compare to. Hopefully someone will take you up on that deal so that when I get around to getting an emulator I can use promgrammer with it.

ok i really dont understand that...... the column heading is in deg C. the values underneath that are values for fueling..... your saying that the entered values are in deg K? why would we have a table that was deg C vs. deg K? what good could come of that?
