How much torque steer is normal?

I was letting a guy I am trying to sell my Typhoon to drive it, and he got on it and asked why it pulled so hard to the right. I tried to explain that it is from all the power that Typhoons have combined with AWD, I couldn't think of the term "torque steer" when I was talking to him so he thinks something is wrong with it. I've driven a brand-new Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and it had noticeable torque steer since it is FWD and Supercharged. That's all I have to compare to, so I was wondering when is torque steer considered excessive in a Ty and what is the cause? It dosen't jerk the steering wheel out of your hand or anything, but you want to be sure you have both hands on the wheel before you go full throttle. I thought this was normal.

Worn front end parts? Idler arms are well known to cause issues.
Control arm bushings
Alignment
Tires or tire pressure

Lotsa things can cause that. My sy leaves straight as an arrow as long as it doesn't spin really hard. I'd say the guy is right, there likley is something wrong, though I doubt it is serious.

AWD should counter any torque steer, it should only be noticable in front wheel drive cars due to the transaxle being off center.

This is my old Ty.It showed over 500 foot lbs of torque per Datamaster. It can break the front tires loose, which causes the torque steer, but I wouldn't be surprised if it needs some frontend work.

Don't do any more 10# launches for potential buyers

It need front end work. My Sy leaves straight, my Ty pulls to the right and has a sloppy front suspension.

Wasn't even a 10# launch, this was just hitting the gas at about 20mph. I thought it was normal since its always done it since I've had it, now I have to pay for it to be fixed just so I can sell it. :(

My Ty does it anywhere in first when building boost.

Plays well with others
Whenever I do a boosted launch, my truck pulls a little to the left....not the right. Now Andrew's Ty used to practically make a left turn out of the hole...I think he had a front locking diff.....(Sean, Brian, BW, speak up here....)

The symptoms you're describing sound like mine when my front end needed to be rebuilt.....pulled to one side when accellerating, and the other when braking....an felt like I was driving on ice when i was maintaining speed.

Got the estimate from the shop....they say broken motor mount on driver's side and all 4 ball joints are bad. They want $540 for the ball joint work and $220 for the motor mount. Anyone hook me up with Moog replacement parts for the ball joints? I already have the custom motor mounts for doing the poly conversion...just didn't have the motivation to do that job. The shop said they would be willing to use my motor mounts and just charge the labor from the $220. Probably worth it since I have read that it is a real nut-buster to do without pulling the engine. I'm guessing that they did the estimate for motor-mounts on a Jimmy, not a Typhoon....suckers.

Ok, got a second opinion....Ball Joints are all within spec 1/8-3/16 of slop. So I guess the first place I went to is clueless. This second shop said my front end is tight, tire wear is normal, no problems. He was like "why did you think your front-end needed repairs?" I'm thinking now that maybe the torque steer could be related to my torsion bars not being adjusted properly. One of the TB mounts has a broken off adjusting screw, so that will be fun to work with. The truck also seems to sit a little bit lower on the passenger side, which is the same direction that the torque steer is occuring in.

I've got a 92 Ty with crap ball joints AND a bad idler arm, and I get zero torque steer. However, I can't get the thing to go in a straight line to save my life while driving.

So... dunno what it is, but I would say that sounds weird. Usually torque steer in a phenomenom of FWD cars only, and when they have unequal length drive shafts. If the shafts are equal length it's not a problem. Remember the Audi A4 when it first came out a few years back? It was reknown for having almost no torque steer in the FWD version. Reading the info they attributted it to having equal length driveshafts. Now I know our setup is a little different, but aren't the actual half-shafts the same length? So that would (theoretically) minimize any torque steer, in addition to the fact that a lot of power is transferred to the rear wheels as well.

I think something else is loose, personally. :(

I replaced the axle on the passenger side right before he bought it.My shop also said that the frontend was tight and couldn't find anything wrong with it.
Dunno man...

RS25, my guess is that the wide tires up front cause your ride to wander. I have torque steer but it is always to the left. If it steers to the right, my guess would be the CV shafts.

Truckless. For now.
James, I agree with TyphoonZR. Your problem is the same one I have, and the same problem I had with my Corvette, and I'm guessing any Ty in CO. It's our low profile/wide Tires and the beautifully maintained  Colorado roads. With our wide tires, we're sucker's for Rutts. We drive where Semi's drive, and if it's not a heavy Truck traffic road, we end up driving where the rest of the population drives because our tires love to follow rutts. Get's even worse trying to break in a straight line when the rutts are bad. I can only drive in certain lanes aroun FC because I don't want to get gutter sucked and curb the snot out of my rims.
