hey guys...ive been floatin around this board for about a year now readin bout sy ty's. ive been real big into GN's and the Sy Ty's ever since i first learned of these GM powerhouses. ive always been a chevy boy and havint owned nothin but a Gm. but i am currently in the coast guard located in san juan Pr and im goin to be goin back to fl in sept. now i want an honest opionin and i meen honest. not your point of view on why which is better but the facts. im in a toss up on weather to get a GN or a Syclone or Typhoon. it will be a daily driver and i want it to be in the 11-12's easily. which is more reliable. ive read about breakin half shafts and prop shafts from people in low 13's and high 12's.im tryin to debate if i want to get rid of my baby or not but it all depends on if i more money for either one or not http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/coastietitz/lst?.dir=/My+87+SS&.view=t

Yeeeesh am I gonna get flamed for this  .

12s reliably and use it as a daily driver? GN.

Why? The stock long block pretty durable into the high 10s. Not hard to get one in the low 12s as there are TONS of ppl who have done it. Aftermarket stuff is miles ahead of us (tons of chips, parts, turbos, etc for them). Most parts to repair them are readily available either through one of the aftermarket companies, salvage yard, or local chain store parts place.

Buy a Sy/Ty for a daily and the first time some knot head in a mini van backs into it you then get to search a planet for cladding that costs an arm and a leg. Except for the rare occassion its not a matter of if the trans will need gone through its when. Aftermarket is extremely small as is parts availability as the only place to get certain items is here, ebay, or the dealer (if they can get the part).

The good part about owning a SyTy? You wont turn every other corner and see someone else driving one. Nobody.... absolutely NOBODY knows what it is. You get to hang out here and be a part of this highly motivated bunch that wants nothing more than to collectively lose all the skin off their knuckles from wrenching on their SyTy's.

Oh, nice MCSS in the sig. Ive owned one or ten of those. They shoulda came with the LC2 from the factory (LC2 is the turbo buick engine FWIW).

Ain't that the truth. (All of it)

the only time I tore skin (okay I'm lying) on my Sy during this engine swap was when I tried to catch my falling tool box.

I totally agree. Another good part about a SyTy's is the AWD, except if someone is using race gas many time we can duplicate our numbers on the street. I know many 12 sec Gn's/TTA at the track that don't run that on the street. I personally love my Sy and would never trade it for a GN.

The halfshaft breakage is uncommon (maybe the boots crack) and the aren't that expensive. The propshaft could be stonger but their are stronger alternatives.

I just looked at your pics, and realized you a SS. If your into spinning the maybe a GN is for you...

I guess it depends on what you call a 'system'... IMO for a Sy, I think you can get a good quality audiophile sytem with a 6" seperates with enclosures and a 8" or 10" sub behind the driver seat. You wouldn't be heard by everyone in the block, but in a small cabin it could provide enough sound to go deaf. But if you into showing off, a bed system and larger sub would be the only way to go.

well i use to have a 85 Regal limited with the poky 3.8 n/a that i hopped up and did the whole interior in crushed velvet on all plastic trim and door panels. had Tv's and 4 JL w-6 15's in the trunk. 162 db, hey it was a show car. right now im in the 148db area with the monte and i kno it sounds slow but im tryin to break 13's. a big problem with traction. moral of the story if you have the room then do it up as much as possible, but im jus worried about daily drivin reliablity. and whats all this i read about the cars not racing too well over 100? the races in my monte usually dont end till 120

Depends on the build. Most of us have hit above 120, the few that have the balls to stay there end up blowing head gaskets and breaking shit. The problem (as i understand) is the turbos heat up and shit gets too hot. Guess if you could keep it cooler it wouldn't be such a big deal. Moving a brick through the wind that fast is tough. I've buried my needle a few times before - but i never stay in there more than a few seconds.

Thats the thign, dont stay there you should be fine. OR build it to take it.

If it's top end you want then get the 89 Turbo Trans Am. It handles better, has a stock top speed of 154mph and is limited production. They run a stock 13.4 quarter mile.

??? Pioneer 760 amp, you went from loud show quality system to $100 amp. Its look like your quantity not quality.

What are you racing highway roll ons or 1/2 mile races. GN and SyTy are not top end vehicle until you spend big money on them. Both of them share the same brakes calipers as your regal, IMO the brakes are inadequate for those speeds.

no it was more of a i need an amp quick thing..lol but ive also upgraded my montes suspension framebraces and brakes to handle those speeds but i was jus curious. you must think im some crazy ass nut. well i admit some think i am but thats jus there opinion. i like speed and all but its overrated. i was jus curious to the limits on the trucks are. jus a comparison on the 3 vehicles. ive ridin and drivin a Gn but havint been blessed with a ride in the trucks

which?

which?

race over 100. which ever you want the ty or gn your race will be over far before 100 with any street car you race. I have a ty, my friends have gn's, love them both. Easy to get gn low 7's in the 8th with minor bolt-ons, but if you drive in the rain you will love awd, and the gn really needs a gnx rear sus. to make it hook and handle alot better, and as far as sound JL Audio w7, pricey but worth it if done right. We do them all the time at my shop. Just comes down too which car you like the best, mistaken for a blazer or a monte, sorry.
Thanks, Matthew
