Re: I'm super retarded, not like Rainman, like Forest.

in I used the FELPRO intake gaskets. BIG MISTAKE

Your kidding me, right? I have a full Felpro gasket kit on that biatch... Was it because they were blown out, or what actually caused them to go bad? Could you hear the vacuum leak, and how much vacuum did it pull in that condition?

Now I have the L35's for sale

How much for the L35's? I know im renig'ing... But if they are cheap enough...

you know i found an easy way to track down a vacum leak on my motor was to spray where i thought the leak was with some either, it would cause my motor to bog really bad... as far as the l35's go i bought a set of 94's or 95's from a salvage yard for a 100 a pair, complete, last time i bought some.

I probably should have done this a long time ago, but tomorrow I am going to build somthing to pressure test the intake. Hopefully, I find a giant ****ing leak somewhere.

Good luck man! We all know that these trucks have a way of kicking our a$$es from time to time. If you need to, have another senior member look at your truck...sometimes staring at the problem too long, you overlook the obvious.

This is why I said put it all back together rob. Its hard to see the obvious when your bay is in chaos order. When I looked at it I was tryign to concentrate on what would be. Call me today and maybe I can swing by this evening. I just parked the TY last night and plan on pulling the motor this weekend so maybe we can switch someparts if need be. Where did you order your ECM? I got mine at Autozone for like $80. If you want to try mine you can. You can also try my inj. I dont think you have a bad ECM though. Did you check both of your ECM grounds? They are very important. One by the ALT and one at the back of the block

Now thats resourceful!

I would have done something overly complicated I'm sure, probably involving removing the throttle body, fabricating a block off plate, installing a schrader valve, yada yada yada.....

The inner tube might be ugly, but cheap, easy, & functional are all excellent selling points.

Have you talked to the engine builder about this?

Pressure test results are in. As soon as I turned the valve on the compressor (all the way in the back of the garage, the truck is parked out front), I could hear massive amounts of air.. I thought my pressure test contraption was leaking it was so loud. I went over to the truck to check things out and the contraption was good. I could hear air rushing out of my Throttle body somewhere, so I sprayed the suspect area down with soapy water. Turns out, my TB was leaking from four different places, one of them was a HUGE leak!. The IAC gasket (brand new) must really suck, because air was rushing out all around it. Im going to RTV that sucker. Next, the capped off nipple on the top left of the TB has a big ol' slice in it, and my TB shaft was leaking at both ends.

Hopefully I will be able to get ahold of Mike at RPM before they ship my order, so I can add a BBK into the mix.

Good to hear. Told you it wasn't the motor

Man I hate to say this but I dodnt think that is all of your problem. When I first did my motor I had the same nipple not capped off and my truck ran fine. You could hear it but it still ran ok. Maybe the IAC leaking wold affect it but I doubt by that much. I could be wrong. I wold think it would still atleast accelerate RPM's semi decent. I knwo mine did. I also dont see a big VAC leak giving you 18 * of KR. I still think you ahve a major ign issue.Plus think about this, this is the same TB correct? It ran ok before right? Hurry up and let us knwo what happens.

How much pressure did you apply?

Same TB, different gasket.

Still cant imagine 18* of KR there.Rob, if you want to try mine before you order anything let me knwo.

Re: I'm super retarded, not like Rainman, like Forest.

A big vac leak is gonna make it run lean, hence spark retard. Gobing up the TB gasket with RTV is a mistake IMO. Is it the correct one? Is it in right side up? At this point another thought would be to cap/plug ALL vac connections/ports on the manifold/TB except maybe the MAP. This won’t hurt under no load shop conditions. If it revs OK then add in the FP regulator and go for a ride. Careful with the brakes. Drive OK? Then add in the remainder of the vac lines and test drive again. Another idea, which I think got mentioned, is intake gaskets. But have you checked the gasket between the upper and lower manifold? Just chiming in with my :2cents:

The leak at the IAC was the biggest leak. The nipple probably doesnt even leak that much under vacuum, because it would suck in on itself and close up, under pressure it expands and pushes air out though. The RPM's do actually accelerate pretty decently, it's just pig rich sometimes, and pops and sputters from it. Correct, Same TB, but different sensors.
I dont mind buying the new TB, because its an upgrade, and the old one definately needed rebuilt anyways. So even if does turn out not to be this. At least I will have a good throttle body next time around.

How much pressure did you apply?

10psi

Gobing up the TB gasket with RTV is a mistake IMO

Not the TB gasket. The IAC gasket.

I had a feeling about twenty post ago that it would be somthing like this when I said to run the diag. step by step. We all miss things and this may or may not be all of the problem but it sounds like a good start  . Man, I bet he's glad he didn't pull the engine now.
