Re: K&N directly on turbo

RU-1700 doesn't fit. just got one today and i'm gonna have to use a 90* elbow to run the filter. oh well. pics later

Damn man, my bad. Since the 1260 and the 1700 are the same size except for being cone vs cylinder, I thought the angle on the neck would make it fit better.

Will get pics of the 1260 on the turbo tuesday.

Its all good, ill make it work. The top of the filter is just too wide. and the angle is too small. If it was more than a 45° angle it might fit. The trans cooler line and the heater hose get in the way. Ill just throw a 90° silicone elbow on it and run it straight up and down. That will fit just right.

Re: K&N directly on turbo

I was actually going to run a filter straight on the turbo also, but always thought it was a bad idea. So what is the bottom line on a daily driver? Thanks Adam.

Re: K&N directly on turbo

the way i see it, as long as you're not looking for max performance, you will be fine running a filter on the turbo. if you're just cruising and not in boost, the intake temps shouldn't be a whole lot higher than with a cold air kit.

Re: K&N directly on turbo

I'm thinking tbauer's filter is a better fit.

Re: K&N directly on turbo

The turbo that I have my filter on is a stealth 70 turbo which sits a little higher and further away from the block than the stock turbo. FYI

so what do you do with the pvc line when you get rid of the factory crossover?

Re: K&N directly on turbo

You can run it to a catch can, and that's what you should do.

Right now, both of my lines are right where they were, just open instead of connected to the air box and cross over pipe. Both lines are still dry after driving it some, so I think I'm just going to run them to the ground.

You can also run it to the exhaust, but it should be after any restriction (muffler) and I'm sure there is some risk of fire.

Re: K&N directly on turbo

alrighty, here is my extremely ghetto setup with the 1700....

what i used:
2.25" silicone elbow (i dont recommend using this because it simply dont fit on the 2.375" turbo inlet)
K&N RU1700
2.25" pipe (~1.5" long)
3 clamps

first off, use the 2.5" elbow. i had to basically cut slits into the edge and force the elbow onto the turbo because these types of things aren't made to stretch. i also need trim the length of the up facing elbow to bring the filter down. it is sitting high at the moment and is touching the hood. already messed up the brand new filter.

on second thought, just use the R-1260 filter. my setup probably restricts airflow. end of story...
