L35 Engine???

Do you mean L35 short block or L35 heads? Anyway. L35 short blocks have a balance shaft above the camshaft. You can also locate the VIN on the block, it's a 'W' code block oposed the SyTy's 'Z' code block.

As far as indetify L35 heads, they have a plug above the coolant temperature sender if I'm right.

A while back, someone posted pics of LB4 (regular) and L35 heads taken off the engine. You could definitely see that they were different heads. But the LB4s also had the "L35" bung. In other words, that extra bung is NOT an accurate way to determine what heads you have. It also makes more sense that half of the 93 Ty's got LB4 heads with the extra bung, than getting L35 heads just thrown on.

L35 Block & Heads

Guys,

From what I've read on the Forum, No SyTy's had the L-35
(balance shaft) "W" block, but some of the later '93 Ty's had
the L-35 heads. Is that right ?

See my previous post. Apparently L35 heads have another bung over the regular heads. People started using this extra bung as a way to tell which heads they had. A while back, someone started a thread to find out just how many of the Ty's had L35s. Turns out like half of them did. BG (I think) made a comment that his company has to do 10 years of research just to change one bolt, so it seemed really weird that GM would just slap on new heads in the middle of the year.

Someone else posted pics of the stock LB4 heads and L35 heads. Internal shots showing that they were definitely different heads. And both had the "L35" bung. In other words, if you have that bung, the only thing you can tell is that you have LB4 or L35 heads. Which I could tell you without even going to the trouble of bending over to look for that bung.

P.S. This means that nobody really knows for sure what engine Tooky has until it's torn apart.

You're absolutely correct. The engine I bought from Dave Goodhue, the engines had the coolant sensor bung. Myclone pulled the heads and verified that they were not L35's.

Took brought his own problems on himself by bragging about having L35s (whether or not he did is a different fact) and then ran in a stock class still with the knowledge that he believed he had L35s.
