Just swap everything from the one truck to the other one at a time and your are sure to find something.

At least i had a good day, 400 hangin off motor and crossmember is done. :)

im not totally disabling my truck to get this piece of shit figured out, besides the fact that I have swapped almost everything now with exception to the whole damn motor.

swapping everything at once has to be the worst thing to do. swap everything over and it does run good, then one, take everything off piece by piece till it runs like shit again? Its still process of elimination either way you look at it.

I would mechanically check the TDC of the #1 piston to be 100% sure about the timing. It sounds to me like either a spark or fuel problem.

that was done when it was all put together, thanks.

spark or fuel?

I think i will put my money on the fuel line having a kink in it someplace.
Since the previous owner did have a lack of power problem.

You ever put a gauge on this to check fp.

Of course a kink may not show on fp if its not a pressure problem but more of a flow or lack of volume.

Guess you tried swapping coils also.

before you part it out let me know i can probably give you whatever you have in it so you can at least break even. If nothing else at least i can trust the bottom end. :D

hey im lookin for beater upgrade anyway :D

seeing as how ed had such a problem with that engine.....and how the lower intake wasn't sealed to the block....i'd check that. Maybe that lower intake has a crack in it, or just can't get a decent seal to the block. Check for a leak there.

they arent his intakes

ok, so these things may have nothing to do with your problem, but since you have tried a million other things and i did not specifically read these in your post....

have you pulled the plugs to see if you are running rich/lean? do you have an EGT you could throw on it? have you checked out your plug wires for cracks or just bad continuity? are all 6 plugs still good, maybe one of them got jacked up accidently? have you checked your fp and fp after key-off?

just my half cent worth...

sorry you are having so many problems, good luck.

nope, havent pulled the plugs, if anything im running lean since thats the code I keep getting.

no i dont have an EGT

plug wires are good

all 6 plugs are brand new and went in easier than any truck ive ever worked on

I have no way of checking FP right now

Check yer ecm grounds. The ones near the t-stat housing and on the rear of the left cylinder head.

Make sure they are clean and tight without any paint or crap between. Take them right off and clean them properly.

No boost huh?.... Hmmm.. You said the stock exh was removed.. You took the cat off correct? If not then take it off or gut it (be aware of potential overboost if that was the prob). How bout the WG and solenoid? Have you tried bypassing the sol and running a vac line right to the WG actuator to see if you could get base boost?

Heres what could cause your probs other than the above (IMO).

Turbo:
You said it was the stocker off your truck so thats not it

Timing:
You swapped dist, ECMs, and verified 0deg advance so thats prolly not it. Try advancing and/or retarding the base timing 2 or 3 deg and see what happens. If the truck suddenly starts to run better either way this may give you a clue that its an ign/timing prob. If no change or it runs worse either way then see the next subject.

Fuel:
Fuel pump is new but what about inj, FPR, or kinked fuel lines? Ya need to verify fuel pressure at idle and also a 1 to 1 rise in pressure with boost (if you can build any). Youre throwing a lean code which could mean the FPR isnt raising FP and the engine is leaning out severely from fuel starvation. It takes fuel to make heat and exh velocity which spools the turbo (among other things but thats another story). Also, IMO get that fuel filter out of there if the truck sat for a long time. Fuel turns to crud after a while so that "new" filter could very well be stopped up with varnish or whatever they call it now days which could give you the lean condition (hence the lean code).

Air:
We're all still breathing so thats not it  unless some varmits have built a nest in the air intake duct. Im guessing you woulda found that though. :-?

Thats the basics I can think of unless there is more to it than it just wont build boost. Hows it run in general? Does it run ok but just wont build boost or does it run like a house is tied to the rear bumper even at light throttle?

I am with Myclone on this one.. I hate to see a good owner who is willing to try to sort through his own problems sell his truck over something like this... it should be something simple.

Get a FP gage.. not a fancy one that you have to mount.. go to Autozone and get one and put it on the spot on the FP rail and check base pressure... at least from what I am reading you have not checked it and said you don't have a way to checkit?

Also... did some one say in the DM file it had 9* of timing at idle? Please clarify this... I am running 34* if that is any reference for you.. I am sure that thing will make no power on 9* at idle, unless I read it wrong.

running lean = probly no fuel.

running rich = plenty of fuel but no spark

so which line is kinked?

The supply hard line right where it does a 90deg turn at the back of the intake is what could be kinked which would starve the engine of fuel... A kinked return line would theoretically raise the fuel pressure and cause it to run fat.

FWIW you could have plenty of spark and still run rich if there is too much fuel being dumped in the engine.

When i replaced my stock fuel pump with two bosch units i found that the old pump was placed too damn lower than it had to. Actually the screen was cut from contact/vibration
The screenfilter was in contact with the bottom..........that explained a lot, but even so i had 15 psi of boost

ok, well I went and checked the ECM grounds on the back of the head that WERE infact loose, so I cleaned and retightened them.

I also removed the upper and intakes, cleaned and resealed them so there is no way in hell they are leaking now.

oh yeah, truck still runs like shit.

next step, get a compression tester and see what this piece of shit is really putting out
