Low oil pressure

Re: Low oil pressure

My truck did the same thing after a rebuild.
#1 Until you set those rings and possibly fix your tune from running rich you will have a gas smell in the oil
#2 The rings in my truck did not seat until I did 20 WOT pulls on the dyno. It was burning oil up until then.
#3 Pressure test your coolant system. See if it holds pressure. You can get kits that go were the radiator cap is at most parts store. PM me if you dont know what Im talking about.
#4 I had a crap load of metal silt in my oil for like 3 oil changes. Get a magnetic drain plug.
#5 Test for leaking injectors with a FP gauge. If the pressure does not drop after you turn the truck off you should be good. I would watch it for like 10 minutes.
#6 I don't have bad knocking. That is concerning.
#7 Check your compression to see how the rings are doing.
#8 My engine has lower oil pressure after it warms up. It does go up with RPMs. I would say that's the most important. Idle on the stock gauge is around 20 for me also (when its hot)
#9 Feel around with a wire in your oil pan to make sure your oil pickup did not fall off.

PM me if you have questions. My motor has a few of the things you talk about. Been driving it all over, probably survived way over 100 WOT pulls so far. Dont get to worried until you figure some things out.

Re: Low oil pressure

Oh and if you have lots of gas in the oil it may delute the oil a bit causing lower pressure. I have read a few other posts and it looks like 20psi on the stock gauge is pretty normal.

Re: Low oil pressure

I have been told by many respected engine builders that you will never get an oil cooler completly metal free. My engine builder refused to warrenty anything unless it was replaced. Its also cheap insurance.

yeah, but mine engine has had a problems 2x shorty after eachother because somebody made some poor mistakes, first time was a new rad. and they aren't cheap over here,
flush with hight pressure water, than add feul blow out with air.

What turbo?
Re: Low oil pressure

Well everything I've been hearing has been very discouraging. I've owned this Ty since June and its been nothing but a disappointment. At the this point I'm on the fence whether to keep it, or just sell it for what I owe on it and take the loss. What would a 92' Ty go for with 170k on the body and transmission that's in fairly good shape with a motor that's uncertain?

Most of these trucks have not been selling well. And when they do sell usually do not bring the money they are worth.

If you are able to have it fixed. I think you should. Then enjoy your truck.

Maybe you can find a member close to you. That could help you to get things sorted out.
