New DM Files...

Stock Chip

Ultimate, 3 Bar on T115

Even w/ my untrained eye, I see lots of knock, knock retard and inconsistant boost. I assume the displayed boost with the 3 bar is not accuate, because my aftermarket guage was reading upto 15PSI and DM shows a max of 9PSI.

I have the fuel pressure set to 44 PSI w/ the vac line removed, timing is at 2* retarted, new ignition system including MSD cap, rotor, coil, ATR wires, UR5 plugs, new Ignition module. It has a high-flow cat & the exhaust dumps after that. All vac lines are new. New fuel filter, stock pump. IC lines are heater hose and runs were w/ the IC on in about 55* weather.

So what does everyone see is wrong? I am anxious to get this thing dialed in.

You have to tell datamaster when you have a 3 bar map sensor, its in the options somewhere. I don't have datamaster on this computer so I cant view your files, and you are probably better off getting help from someone that knows more then me anyway.

A high flow cat and no cat back might cause boost problems with a stock turbo.
The first things to look for that might be causing knock are too much boost, running lean (your O2mv should be 900+ iirc), or high intake air temp ( i would say anything above 140* is bad).

Fixed the links, thanks for pointing it out.

ACT is around 45 - 50*.

The boost was never constant even w/ a full catback.

Doesn't the Ultimate call for fuel pressure to be at 50 with the vacuum line removed and plugged?

Re: Finally have DM, Someone please tell me whats wrong!

ACT = IAT?
45-50* = celsius?
45*C = 113*F and 50*C = 122*F
If that is the case then your good shape with intake air temp.

Servando knows what he is doing and can point you in the right direction.

Yea, the IAC in Celsius.

I saw the O2mv drop pretty low when building up boost, all the way down to 200 believe. Its in the file above.

Re: Finally have DM, Someone please tell me whats wrong!

Your IAT is not too high so that’s not the cause of the knock.
Your O2mv and INJ DC say you are not running lean (maybe even alittle rich) so that’s not the cause of the knock.
Your boost control is not good, but it’s on the low side so that’s not the cause of the knock.
You are using at least 92 octane, right? I think I would get some high octane gas, if the knock goes away its real, if it doesn’t change then its false knock.

Re: Finally have DM, Someone please tell me whats wrong!

the best I can get here is 91 octane. I only use Chevron as it yeilds the best performance and mileage. I will mix in a couple gallons of 100 and see if that helps.

I assume that you can't get rid of false knock...

Re: Finally have DM, Someone please tell me whats wrong!

A couple gallons isn't enough. Mix it 50/50 with 91 and 100, that will give you 95.5. Make sure you get unleaded or at least 100 low lead.

I have not had to deal with false knock myself (knock on wood) but I think that most people that have eventually got it figured out. There is a lot of info about that here on the board, you just have to find it.

Re: Finally have DM, Someone please tell me whats wrong!

well my tank is 3/4 full. Can I mix 110 octane w/ 91? Or is there even 110 unleaded? Thanks for the link, lots of good info.

Re: Finally have DM, Someone please tell me whats wrong!

I don't think there is 110 unleaded but I'm not sure. I'd just wait until your tank is lower, just dont go wot until you get better gas.

go to Chipping, Emisions, and Tuning
go to the bottom of the page where it says Display Options - From the -
change "last month" to "last year"
TONS of info here, just not always easy to find.

Your truck shifts early, 1st to 2nd isn’t too bad at 4175, but 2nd to 3rd was at 3775 – it should be about 4400-4500. Also when it went into 3rd, the rpm stayed 3050-3100 all the way from 48 mph to 57 mph. Do you have a 3000 stall converter?

I just looked at the ultimate file… to be honest I’m kinda surprised you truck still runs, that is way too much knock, iirc the computer can only retard timing like 12-14*, and you hit 12* at 1 point. What ever you do, do not put the chip back in until you get the knock figured out.

Re: Finally have DM, Someone please tell me whats wrong!

get yourself a few gallons of 110 leaded race fuel and mix it when you get down to about a quarter tank. running that much leaded through your o2 sensor one time won't hurt it unless the sensor is shot anyway. it's the same conversion. 5 gal or 91 plus 5 gal of 110 = 201 divided by 2 = 100. if it knock on 100 i wouldn't think it's the octane. have you played with or moved the distributor? if so you may have too much timing in it. it should definitely run rich on this mixture

you might look through the dm setup and make sure everything is set right. for what it's worth when i tried the ultimate my boost fluctuated all over the place.

I set the timing, so I did mess with the dist. It ran way better with 10* advance, so that probably made up for the 5-12* retard it is taking out when it detects the knock. I just checked it and it is right around 2* retard.

Ill try high octane tomorrow and see how she runs on that.

I have noticed the early shifting also. I was told that the early shifts are normal on these trucks...? It shifts to OD at 40 even if I am still accelerating up to speed. It kinda bogs the motor. How are the shift points adjusted on this tranny? Can I do it or should I take it to a shop?

The previous owner had a new trans installed about 20K miles ago. I have no idea what stall converter is installed. Is there any way to tell without taking it apart?
