I think silver looks darn nice on these trucks, even the silvers that tend more towards grey than a 'bright'. But I also agree with what was said, fricking silver cars EVERYWHERE.

I have wondered what the Camaro green would look like on a Sy/Ty. The bright metallic green that was limited edition. It might not go well with the cladding though, bright colors make it look more plasticy. Here again silver helps, it blends out the cheap look of the cladding. It may be better on yours too because of the body work put into the cladding.

Dodge Charger or Chevy Corvette burnt orange metallic is a personal favorite. Those are the only two cars with a good burnt orange though, every other burnt orange looks like crap IMO. I love me a good 'copper'. It blends really well with a dark grey metallic if graphics are in order.

Biggest thing anymore is color. Silver and neutrals are on their way out, they have just been way overdone the last few years. Brighter earthy colors are getting more attention.

If you see a color on a car you like, ask the driver the name of the color. Or ask a person with you (wifey, daughter, etc). Note the make and year, and go from there.

Personally, I'd entertain the Emerald Green of the firewall. Solve that problem (firewall color) and solid color green looks good on Typhoon.

Today I am wet blocking with a paint stick and 400 wet sandpaper. Big fun, not, but the body is coming out straight. In these pictures, I have made it to about the center of the rear wheel, working front to rear. There is a light guide coat on the primer that is easy to see when sanding, but it is hard to see in these pics.

I think I have decided on this color. BMW titanium silver. This car was in my buddy's shop today and I think it would look good on the clone.

I really think the forest green, with silver cladding work look great. More original color to the body style of the early 90's. Ya the silver looks great but just doesn't seem like it fits the truck and the first impression would be non factory paint.

Progress from today. I spent about 6 hours prepping and taping the truck prior to spraying. Rob came over and helped, and got some free spray time. We did the door jams, rear hatch jams, and the hood jams. I am going to save the fire wall for my own personal pleasure.:lol:

Today, I blocked the roof, again. This time with wet 400 and a paint stick. It came out pretty straight, and I hope to be painting soon. The roof is still a little wet from driving home in the rain.

Sure. I am in about $500 so far and I have bought all the sealer, paint, and clear for the truck. Included in that cost is pre-clean, masking paper, sandpaper, and other misc. supplies for painting and prep.

I know you're using 2K primer, which is a PPG product. Are the rest of the paint materials PPG as well? $500 sounds too low for PPG even with a smokin' hooked-up body shop deal. BWTFDIK. Looking good, Randy.

I know you're under the tutelage of a bodyman-painter-friend, and he's supervising the work. I'm self-taught. I have a comment regarding the jamming. When I jam a vehichle, I do the jambing prior to the final sanding on the exterior. I don't mask the body, I allow the jamb paint to come out onto the body about an inch or so, and fade away. During the final sand, any over spray onto the body is removed, and the jambs are smoothed out onto the primer. This way I avoid a hard tape line from the jambing masking (there isn't any), and "light coverage" right at the transition onto the body. The rears of the door jambs are a critical area because the jamb is so visible when the door is open.
When I prep to shoot the body, I back-tape the body joints to keep over spray off and out of the jambs. This tape line is inside the jamb, and fairly easy to color sand off, if even needed.

Everybody develops their own techniques. There's as many right ways to paint a car as there are qualified guys that do it. Thought I 'd share one of mine.

That is basically how we are doing it, Dave. The jams were taped on the edges from the outside using 2" wide masking tape that was "rolled" out around the edges toward the body so as not to produce a sharp line. The is just a little paint line/haze that goes out onto the body.

I helped my buddy untape an overall paint that he just did, and I am not looking foward to the amount of taping that my truck is going to take.

The base coat paint brand is Limco. The color is BMW titanium silver, color code 354, and I bought one gallon. The clear coat is Nason 498, and I also bought one gallon. The sealer is Nason 422-23, and I bought one quart. I also bought a pint of Dupont C8575 dark charcoal interior dye to respray some of the interior pieces. These are not high dollar paints, but will do the job and my buddy uses these paints on all kinds of different cars.

I did some blocking on the cladding today. It wasn't to awful bad, especially with the thick layer of 2K on the cladding. I only had to fill a couple of small chips.
