Prop shaft damage

Tried jumping on the gas on the high way today only about 60% throttle from about a 60 mph roll and I heard a large clunk and bunch of metal scrapping...

I assumed I lost my trans...



Got to the side of the highway about 300 feet later and my prop shaft is ripped apart right after the transfer case...


It's dark so just towed it back home...


Shifting gears was very stiff... trying to put it into park etc...but no sound... I was even able to reverse it slowly down the tow truck with no sign of problem minus the slapping of the prop shaft..


Since my prop shaft ripped apart what could be the reasons?
Bad joint?
Transfer case failed?
Any chance my trans caused it to lock up?


I am car novice... hence my dumb questions...


Just want to get my head around worst case and most likely case.


(Truck is pretty much stock. 20g turbo / 2600 stall tc / walbro fp )

Plain and simple, they fail. Usually from boost launches, but not in your case.

use search and find an aftermarket one. Buy some bolts from Mike Campbell. Will most likely also need a new shifter cable. Also need drive shaft safety loops in case it happens again. Front and rear. PM me as I have an extra set. They save the shifter cable, the trans, the floor and maybe YOU.

Shifting was probably stiff due to the cable/bracket... being bent from getting hit by the propshaft.

Been there done that... Probably F-ed up the shifter cable and brackets as mentioned. With that said I have a good prop shaft (stock) and a shifter cable if you're looking for parts to put it back together. LMK via PM

If he was unlucky, he has a hole/crack in his transmission.

Luckily mine only dented the pan, took out the governor and cover, as well as the crossmember. $600 in damage and I did the work myself. I was only going 40mph.... It can get ugly

x3 your propshaft bent your shifter linkage, you should be able to just bend it straight.
