Raced an Extreme

Plays well with others
I pulled up to a light next to an Extreme Blazer. (as opposed to the pickup) Light turned green and we both got on it, we stayed pretty much even up to about 50 or so when I let off.

Then we get to the next light, and I roll down my window to talk to him. I told him too bad I wasn't in my Typhoon, (I was in the Honda Odyssey)

He asked, isn't the Typhoon the other version of Extreme? I said, ahh, "No, it's a Typhoon". He said he had an Extreme pickup that he had put a turbo in. I asked him if he'd taken it to the track yet. He said no, he was still working on tuning it. Hopefully I'll run into him at the track sometime with his Turbo Extreme.....a real Syclone would have been cheaper.

LMAO...

I was gonna ask if you had somehow managed to race w/o boost...

I love what XTreme owners have to say about Syty's...

"Isn't that the older version of an xtreme?"
"Yes, now lets race, mine is 10 years older" 8)

Not EVERY Xtreme owner is so ignorant. And not every Xtreme is so slow to lose to a minivan. :fist:

Either way, good story. :)

What gets me is they look at you in your ride and then they think they have something special. They blow. Typhoon, Syclone wanna-bees.

I've seen 3 different Xtremes (actually rare over here) in the last week...and 1 repeatedly. It paines me every time knowing that my (original Xtreme) is still down for the count.

I honestly like the extremes. not bad little trucks for the money, get one with the 4.3, add a Vortech or Procharger and you have a real fun little truck to drive. And they can haul/tow to right?

Most extreme owners don't even know what a Syclone is, can't really put them in a mold though cause most people in general don't either.

I don't get to enraged by them though, I know what we have and WE prove ourselves on the streets everyday.

Alls I know is that I still have non-stop head turning to get another look at my truck when I am driving around, and if they are silly enough to come back and looking for a race I'll give them something more to look at...............a tailgate 8)

The Xtremes are nice looking (IMO), but GM could have gave them a bigger sack in the HP department. I have the 4.3/auto and it's a dog. I can imagine what the 2.2 four is like!

Must say I prefer driving my clone even though it's a beater. (cosmetically)

Don't wast your gas racing an Xtreme unless he has an LT1 stuffed in it (it's been done already) - even then, he may have traction issues...

My next project is to put the 4.3T AWD into the Xtreme, when I find the right frame. The Syclones are a tad too cramped for me, thus the extended cab....

Are you guys trying to tell me my truck isn't a first generation xtreme? I guess all those guys at the car shows must be wrong.

I personally wouldn't want to dive into another V8 conversion...very labor intensive and can be costly. Even with a Z06 engine the performance would be about the same as my turbo kit, sure the LS1 has more potential in HP but that comes at a high cost. For $5500 you can have a mid to low 13 second Blazer X...you couldn't do the V8 conversion for the same price. Besides, why take apart a perfectly good truck. Just my IMO...try to work smarter not harder.

I'm happy with my 13.545 @ 103.88 with a no boost launch in my 4100 lbs. Blazer Xtreme. GM should have built the Xtremes with AWD and the turbo setup I have...then it could be the modern day Typhoon. As always I feel GM has dropped the ball again. Maybe next time........ :(

Doesn't GM always drop the ball? Look at Dodge (Ram SRT-10) and Ford (Lightning), they have muscletrucks while GM has what, the Silverado SS? The Silverado SS doesn't cut it for a performance vechicle. Looks like it'll be 3rd place again in the performace category...

It just pisses me off that GM has the stuff to make a truck run with these two and then does a 6.0 N/A AWD truck that will get blown out of the water.

I know others will think different, but that's just my opinion.

First off it is Xtreme not Extreme  Kinda like Syclone spelled Cyclone    j/k. Anyways, the Xtremes have great handling and are very comforable to drive. The have decent room...a little more than the Sy. Not a bad truck for a daily driver. The four is great on gas, and it is a turn key car. I thought about buying a Typhoon but....now I am glad I got something reliable. The Xtreme is the "Syclone" without performance.
