Yesterday a friend and I go to his shop to change my wheel cylinders (planned on racing last night) and one of his brother’s friends comes by the shop with a c.e.l. to see if we can check it. I’ve seen him a couple times before but don’t really know him. He has never ridden in a syty, so I take him for a ride. I turn off of a SR onto a back road and I see the car behind me has the turn signal on to go on the same road I’m on, so I pull over in a small parking lot so there isn’t anyone waiting behind me when I launch the truck. Well the car that turned behind me was actually following me and they pull in front of my truck and a guy gets out of the passenger side and goes to the passenger side of my truck and starts trying to punch the guy I’m taking for a ride. Then decides to try to pull him out the window puts his hip up against the door and starts pulling on him, he lets go and I go back to the shop and check out the damage. The door is dented pretty bad, the door handle and lock are pushed in and the window sounds BAD right before it gets all the way to the top.

Why in the hell did they fight? Why didn't you run from them, and drive or call the cops.....not worth getting the door messed up.

Damn Scott, they * your shit up.I say heads should roll.Tell them you want a "devaluation settlement" on top of the repairs since they ruined the originality of your rare classic.A truck is only "original" once, and since they have ruined parts on it you should be compensated.

Is a there a way to determine an amount for a devaluation settlement? I think this is something to bring up with them, but I'm sure I'd have to have something to back it up on paper.
I'm really not sure because normally a devalution settlement is for a car that was more than 25% damaged then rebuilt.I would go with the "rare collector car" strategy and try to get a grand or so extra.

neither of us got out of the truck, it happened very fast, we did run and call the cops. I dont know why guy was pissed at him and i dont care, let the cops figure it out.

actually, i was talking to jeff scott about "diminished" value and how you DONT want to get parts fixed, but totally replaced.

Supposidly, the word "diminish" is a big key word in dealing with insurance companies.

Ive already talked to Progressive and gave them the GM part numbers of the pieces that need to be replaced. I urged them to call up GM and verify that the estimates of the costs of the pieces I gave them where within dollars of the actual cost. Because of the value of the 3 pieces broken, most people would assume your lying and overinflatting cost.

I specified I want GM OEM value, and nothing less because the pieces broken where not manufactured anymore and for me to get the parts would be hell.

With luck, the rep from Progressive understood my situation and has people whom she knows with show vehicles, so she understood the value of my parts and why the cost is astronomical.

My estimated cost for:

bent support
ruined bumper cover
cracked RH corner cladding

$2500 GM cost....thats excluding paint / labor / s/h of parts

I have schematics, pictures, truck history, GM numbers and a syclone sitting next to the typhoon for Progressive to compare numbers if they question anything.

I should be getting a call tomrrow about getting a Rep out to look at the truck. Hopefully it goes well.

I'll throw some pics up later on today.

I had progressive when my truck got hit. All the FAST guys saw the damage and I think there's pics around. Since the other drivers insurance company was some fly by night place that wouldn't pay what it was going to be to replace the parts I eventually had to go through my own insurance company.

They replaced all the parts that they could get from GM. The only thing they couldn't get was the under door cladding on the passenger side, so the "certified GM" dealer "fixed" that. Progressive didn't really complain about having to pay that sort of price for the parts. Probaby because they were going to try and get their money back from the other company.

As long as you aren't a complete dick about the whole situation they should be willing to work with you. Just watch out. You can push the diminished value portion of the argument stating that you do want new parts on the truck, but they might try to argue that the parts weren't new when you got hit.

If someo of you are wondering why my truck is in the For Sale section, part of it has to do with the fact that THE EXACT SAME THING, WORD FOR WORD happened to me about 2 weeks ago. Even to the extent that the cop didn't issue a ticket because it "looked like it was under $500 repairs," despite my arguing otherwise. Lady says she'll pay out-of-pocket, I go to get an estimate 2 days later (Note: On trip to get said estimate, valve stem on driver front tire mysteriously shears in half, leaving me with a flat on Route 80. Put on spare, get stem replaced, go get estimate.) Estimate comes back at $1577.00, lady decides to use insurance (duh!), and is super pissed, thinking I am conning her. (Note 2: On way back from Chevy dealer for estimate, one spark plug randomly begins arcing to the block, making the ride home rather fun).

Regardless, Adam, I feel your pain, believe me. Apparently the rear bumper is still available; however, the support is nowhere to be found. Don't know if you were aware of that.

think about looking in your rear view mirror and seeing another syclone parked in your syclone's tailgate :D NOW THATS EXPENSIVE.

Got the insurance check today.

$1857.47 Total damage.

Not only did they include GM pricing for all the cladding, but also included all the body brackets underneath the cladding that holds it on the body, along with paint and labor....about $400 more than what I was expecting.

Im happy. Time to go buy parts and fix this thing.
