Those damn kids and their Hondas...

First of all, I dont own a Sy or a Ty, however I do have an 89' 2wd S10 Blazer. It has a mildly modded vortec 4.3 v6 from a 2004 S10 along with a 5 speed from the same truck, ZQ8 suspension, 18' 5 spoke wheels and BFG Gforce tires. It has a garret turbo, similar to the ones that come on Sy/Tys, but not the exact one. It was dynoed before tuning and made 337 horses, and 394 ft/lbs. at the rear wheels. Now I would say it makes 355 horses easily. Anyways, I have an interesting kill story. I had just gotten off the freeway and was on my way to band practice. Some punk kid pulls up next to me in his obnoxiously bright orange eg hatch honda, revd it up (it was boosted) and didnt intimidate me a bit, sounded like my weed eater I have at home. I decided I wasnt in the mood for a speeding ticket and decided to just carry on to the next stoplight in a calm and orderly fashion. On my way to the next stoplight the little idiot decided it would be a good idea to to pass me, and got way too close to the front of my truck. Now i was pissed. So i changed lanes and and stopped right next to him at the next stoplight. I reved her up a little just to show him I was ready this time. I put it in first and footbraked it to 3,000 id say. The turbo spooled up just late, and i sat at the light for about 2 seconds longer than him after it turned green. When I let go of the brake I left at 10psi. she through me into the seat and i was off. For some reason it hooks really well from a stop, but when i shift into second it spins the tires for about 5 yards, and chirps 3rd.I was past him before I hit 3rd gear however, and by the time I hit fourth he was pretty far back there. Didn't even have to put it in 5th. After I slowed down the kid drove by me with his middle finger raised, and at that point i noticed he had a cute little girlfriend in the passenger seat. Made my day. I hope he learned not to mess with turbo v6's!

Nicely done. I don't understand why arrogant show offs have to flip people off because they're cars aren't as fast they think. :screwy:

Flipping someone off can definitely be taken wrong. When I do it from a race weather I win or lose, I am usually smiling and mean it in more of a friendly you bastard kind of way. Especially when you have to turn or don't feel like rolling down your window so they can ask you about your old school Extreme.

Sounds like your motor is more than lightly modded. 335 to the wheels NA is pretty damn good IMO.

Yeah, well this was definately because he was embarresed. And I guess I was being a little modest. The engine consists of ported world sportsman 2 heads, aluminum roller rockers, modified hooker hedders, a gm performance aluminum intake manifold, holley throttle body with an aluminum spacer, comp cams cam, not sure of the duration but its pretty big, proform timing gear set, MSD btm ignition, not sure of the injectors, blow off valve and the intercooler as I bought the motor and turbo setup from a guy who didnt know too much about it because he wasnt the one who built the motor. He had it in an S10 Extreme that didnt hook up for anything. The compression was kept down at 9 1/2:1. I dont know much more about it, but I do know that the bottom end is stock, which will be changed soon. I hope to learn more about what all is there soon however.

He has a turbo on his 4.3.

I don't know what it is about Honda owners around here, but a good 2/3 of the time when I see someone driving like an A-Hole, its a Honda driver.

Amongst friends or people you know I can agree with that.

To a total stranger though, it still says F*#k you!

And the op said he's got a Garrett on it.

Depends, not if you have a big grin on your face. If I flipped you off after a race you'd get it, trust me.

Re: Those damn kids and their Hondas...

yea i don't get it either. a 5 speed from a 2004 s10...is a manual. but he's footbraking it to build boost at the line? huh?

You can foot brake a manual trans?? I do it all the time in my geo tracker lol, but it can be done

Re: Those damn kids and their Hondas...

oh yeah, you can foot brake a 5 speed. Theres a technique to it ;) Its not as hard on your clutch. I dont like dumping the clutch too much.

Re: Those damn kids and their Hondas...

From what some Evo guys have told me, they load the throttle while on the brake and use the left foot for the clutch. I guess it takes some practice but I say just buy a SYTY! It is probably more common than you might think. I know on the local racing forum you hear about it semi frequently and they talk about it like its common knowledge and youre a tool if you own a car like that and dont know how to do it.

Re: Those damn kids and their Hondas...

Evo's have a factory 5000rpm rev limiter with the clutch depressed, the Aftermarket Tune raise that up a little higher. From what I have read most of them are launch off that.

Re: Those damn kids and their Hondas...

What does "load the throttle" mean? When sticks were prominent years ago, everyone put their heel on the brake and pressed gas pedal with their toe, it is called heal and toeing, while holding the clutch pedal down in at the line. Keeps you from rolling through the lights. Does it mean they let the clutch engage some while braking? That will definitely ruin a clutch in no time. Sure sounds like a ricer idea to me. haha. :rotf:

This is how it has been described to me. I don't know, I don't have that problem so it doesn't matter to me.

so you're saying loading the motor against the clutch isn't hard on it? and that is easier on it than a hard launch? I call bs on this.

Also...

Heel-toe driving is NOT for launching. This is for solo racing / road course racing. For entering turns. Whoever is claiming to heel toe a launch is full of it. A 2 step / rev limiter is the only way...unless you enjoy sitting still and burning your clutch.
