This has been kicking me in the ass every sense it happened.

#1 I am not going to tell you his name. I just would have liked the common curtsy of knowing. Thats all.

The Facts:

1) I posted some SyTy wheels and center caps on CL for $400. In hopes that a local SyTy peep that cant afford the high prices of used parts from venders would buy them.

2) Guy called me. Came over and bought them even though I would not budge on my price.

3) During the sale I found out that he had both a Sy and a Ty. (cool)

4) After the sale we carried the wheels to his truck that was parked around the corner at my neighbors house. And BAM... a SGT. ?????

Who is this guy.

So after a couple calls. I found out the He owns an online store that sells SyTy SGT parts, he is a vendor on this forum, and I have bought several parts from him over the years. I unknowingly sold to a vendor. If I known he was a vendor. I probably would not have sold to him. That pissed me off. But, It is my own fault. I did not ask him if he was a vendor. I feel that vendors should conduct themselfs as such. I really cant blame the guy. There are no set rules for him to follow off line. But as a vender, wouldn't you want to advertise yourself every chance you got. He could have mentioned his online store and given me a business card. It is not like he couldn't see the Sy or the Ty in my driveway. Sooner or later, I would need parts. I did try to contact him to ask him to sell them back to me. But a deal is a deal. I got my asking price. I just fell that I let down the community. Sorry Guys.

I wouldn't beat yourself up on that - it's pretty cool that you are so keen to help everyone out but the parts are still available to the forum. The guy is prepared to invest some money in those items and sell them for a little bit more than you would because it is his business. He is taking on some risk and putting in some effort.

Otherwise you may have not had access to the cash for a while and had a lot of people letting you down with failed purchases. It's a waste of your time.

I guess some vendors may argue that they have to keep their business low-key because if someone thinks it's a vendor, they try for a higher price. Nobody wins.

Maybe he plans to use them personally rather than resell them?

If you want to sell some cheap parts to me, I am sure something can be arranged :lol:

if you got the $$ you were asking...why would you care who it went to? If you're mad that they might make money off of it, then you should ask more for the item you were selling.

So many parts get swapped/passed around from person to person w/o being used ever anyway. Vendors have every right to buy things - especially ones that are owners themselves - could very well just want it for their own person vehicle.

My post was about my aggravation towards vendors that don't speak up and say who they are when buying products from other people. It is common courtesy to announce who you are.

All Im asking Is that he should have started off with. "Hi my name is SMITH. I sell SyTy parts online. Would you sell me your wheels? ".

That keeps an honest sale.

I sold my first Syclone to a guy who turned out to own a dealership in Texas and soon after put it up for sale for more (in fact, I was in Renz's bathroom when I heard about it...long story...). Pretty sure he got more for it than he paid. Who cares? I was happy to get what I got (13,600)

One time.I found a 4422 transfer case on eBay, it was listed wrong and it cost me 2x on shipping than I paid for it. I found a complete SGT ground effects for $250 BIN. Bought all that shit and made a grand. Wouldn't you?

one last point on this. parts vendors have to get their parts from somewhere/someone. It's convenient when you want to buy something and no one happens to be selling it at that point in time, as you've taken advantage of yourself. They don't make those kind of parts themselves...and no new oem stuff is being made anymore....so it all has to come from somewhere. It's just a matter of who finds it first and for the cheapest.

There are plenty of flippers on this site who aren't vendors...looking to make a quick buck off their fellow members. I'd be more upset with them than with a vendor who is obviously trying to make some money.

But at the same time...what someone else pays for something really doesn't matter too much. It's what the parts are worth to you (the buyer) that really matters. If you buy a set of wheels that you really want for $500 that you know the seller paid $2000 for them, you're happy with your purchase. If you buy a set of wheels that you really want for $500 and they're worth $500 to you...then you're happy. If you find out the seller only paid $50 for them - if you're happy to pay $500, then it really shouldn't matter.

I have been to the Pomona swapmeet (West Coasts largest) & have seen regular Joes selling there used parts there (they shop also @ the same time they are selling) & they will buy something for a fare price & turn around sell it right there & then. for a profit. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Now maybe if this guy was loaded w/money & he talked you down on the price, I could see your point of being upset a little.
Maybe I look at things differently?

im ok with the vendor buying them to refinish or make them better and reselling for a profit for the sole purpose of resurrecting an awesome set of wheels, but he should have introduced himself as a vendor, he probably felt like you may not deal with him for the exact reason you started the thread, but as mention getting what you wanted for them was your optimum goal and you surpassed that, we cant pick and choose all of our buyers that is certain, given the benefit of the doubt maybe he was buying for one of his customers, perhaps doing his legwork? just thoughts, congrats on the sale either way.

No different than Pawn stars. I've sold stuff on the forums and made money. I have also bought parts off people on this forum and resold them on e-bay and made more money than I could have here. Because not everybody has cash rolling out their @$$. I don't see a problem with it. One of the things that does bother me and it's not the forums fault at all. Is that there are some great deals to be had, just that they are so damn far away. Might be a good thing, otherwise I would have a dozen of these trucks in the driveway.

I would never expect a vendor to introduce himself when buying parts. If we make a deal great, if not life goes on.

I sell a LOT of Chevelle parts in Ohio, many guys know me as the guy that has big block stuff and ss stuff, some people know I may resell. Some may like it and some may not, but for me it helps offset the cost of the hobby.

sometimes, parts hoarders like me do actually keep stuff. You should see my basement o stuff.

If he gave you a sob story about how he had a truck and wanted original wheels for it and he's only a poor college student and can't afford $500 so can you please take $350... then maybe you'd have a reason to be a little peeved.

It you sold them for less than you thought they were worth because you built that story up in your own head, then it's on you, sorry.
