Walbro is screaming out loud!!!

Hi all,

As some of you may know, I did the fuel pump saturday. Well on sunday I started to hear a REALLY LOUD humming noise coming from the fuel tank It's the walbro... It's humming out LOUD and you can feel the bed vibrating... Is this normal???

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Uhh - they are loud - I don't know about bed-shaking loud. Might wanna see if there are people under the bed cover I can hear mine - just cause I am listening for it - most people haven't a clue.

Well at first I couldn't hear it, but then it started humming like a house airconditioning console. I don't mind the humming, it's just that the first few runs it didn't sound as loud as it sounds now. Everybody asks me what's that humming coming form the bed. You can actually hear it with the truck at idle and if you hold the bed near to the gas tank you can also feel the vibrations.

Also I noticed that the first few runs when it was silent I could feel small pulsations at the gas pedal. Then when it started humming its like having a cellular in vibration mode on the gas pedal. I checked the fuel pressure gauge and it was going crazy It was going up and down so fast you can't read the pressure

Dave, I also checked if there was someone in the bed, but there was no one :wink:

Any help will be greatlly appreciated!

I read the post about the 80# of fuel pressure.

Crimped fuel line is the first thing to come to mind. Did you remove the pulsater and use the piece of rubber hose in the kit? Might be an issue with that. Did you get a new sender lock ring kit? If that isn't on all the way - it might cause crazy vibrations - I doubt it - but maybe.

I didn't use the hose on the kit... Could that be the problem? Everything seemed to be ok. I even checked it a couple of times and even tested the truck before reinstalling the bed. The ring was really tight too.

I recall reading here a while back that if you didn't get rid of the pulsator, it would basically cancel out any gains from a better pump, for what that's worth.

Just did mine yesterday. Works fine, no more knock @WOT and I can't even hear it. It is very quiet. I only canceled dumper thing. Rest is by the book.

FWIW My Walbro HP 255 was relatively quiet for the first few weeks and then became permanently louder. It performs fine, but it's definitely got that "You must be running an upgraded fuel pump eh?" whine to it..

I run the HP 255 Walbro with the pulsator for a while and it was loud. After a while a replaced the pulsator for whatever reason and it's really quite till then. Performance wise I can't see any difference...

It is supposed to suppress the noise of the stock pump. It also will bleed off your fuel pressure if you leave it attached...

Don't worry about pulling the bed, I do mine for "fun" just to wax the back of my cab, the front of my box and corrosion control. But, I use a fork lift when I do mine .

I did what Sy#26 suggested:
"Hole is 5" x 10", 9 1/2" back from front of bed, 12" in from left side. Cut w/ saber saw, no prob if the blade extends 1" or less thru the metal "

I used Dremel with cut-off wheel (took 4 wheels) but cut is very accurate and, next weekend I am going to put couple of hinges and install inner piece back into opening (I'll post pics when done). Once it is done you will able access pump in seconds.

I have a kink/twist in my feed line and would like to fix it this spring and wasn't looking forward to removing the tank again. :evil:
I'd like to do like Daron H did and fix it the right way.

I don't have any specifics, but there was a pic of a Ty posted here a while ago that had a little door in the floor over the fuel pump...

I am almost sure it is possible. Start with small hole, and go from there.

Hey guys,

got ridd of the pulsator and the problem was gone !!! Now the truck pulls like a raped ape I went to test it without the bed and RWD :lol: I never got traction :lol: :lol:

Tomorrow I'm changing the driveshaft seal and putting the front propshaft back!
