ISTA and Future Nats....? (long)

I have about 30+ of the OG ISTA stickers. However...

If the want for ISTA is to move forward and become a real establishment, I would suggest a new design... its dated.

He did tell me that he would turn it over but this was a long time ago...I dont know if Josh is even still around.
yup...this is who i was referring to. I didn't get a chance to call him this weekend. He'll still alive, but doesn't come to the board ever.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I figured we'd open designing one up to everyone then vote on the best one.

So, it looks like there's at least a little interest in this. Still not quite enough to pursue it full blown yet.

If ISTA is a registered organization, is it tax exempt? That would certainly help for club merchandise....

I would be in. I think its a great idea, and would make great progress for our community and our trucks to be more recognized.

It was tried back in the day of OGs who had connections and never went anywhere.

Then Josh took it on and at least got the paperwork rolling then he too lost interest.
I remember when Renz was named as the Vice President of the ISTA. That was :rotf:

I am not sure how the non-profit status works but I don't think it would be too terribly big of a deal. Sure would make managing the Nats fundage easier too.

I would be 100% supportive if it materializes.

Back then they were trying to establish a board of members to oversee the organization of the group and put together a set of by laws of how it would be administered as well as what benefits members would receive for joining.
It would be cool if you could get with Marty and perhaps supply build sheet info for members, documented history of their VIN etc etc.

More of my thoughts on ISTA:

Non Profit Stuff:
I'll have to ask my mom about Non-profit status. She was part of my high school booster club forever and was apart of all of the non-profit/tax exempt paper work and stuff. She knows how to set things up, what is needed to maintain, etc.

Organization/Board of Members:
That's a tough one. It's more than a one man project, but it's tough to say "who's in, who's out" as a governing board. I vote for the Nats Planning committee to maintain control of all the funds, etc. You guys have done great with Nats so far, why should you stop now. ;) Maybe the Nats committee can pick a few extras from the SyTy community to help oversee/organize, etc.? I don't know, still figuring this one out.

Member Benefits:
Some random ideas here:
• Yearly ISTA T-Shirt (like Corvette Club of America)
• Maybe we can set up a Cafepress store for Member's only apparel?
• Stickers - ISTA, Got Boost, Kill Stickers, etc
• SyTy Calling Cards (Business Cards) to leave on newly sighted trucks pointing them to either SyTy.net or your local ISTA Chapter.
• Build Sheets, VIN history, Carfax of your particular truck/trucks for joining
• ISTA Keychain - I'm sure we can get with Darren on this one
• Vendor Discounts? Our vendors do enough to support our community, I wouldn't want to step on any toes and try to reduce their profits. The vendors we have are great... Maybe just a sheet of "preferred vendors" so people know where to get parts?
•Discount on Nat's registration?

Local Chapters:
MHST, NASTE, GAST, FAST etc. - Maybe the local chapter with the highest attendance at Nats gets special T-Shirts or stickers or a traveling trophey or something. Obviously it will be really cool in order to get more attendance from all over the US/Canada

That's probably all I should type now. I should get back to work :rotf:

It looks like there will be enough support to get this thing going. I'll talk to my mom about the non-profit stuff and I may start looking into costs for T-Shirts and the like. I'll do some research on other clubs as well to see how they do things.

Thanks for all the ideas and support so far. I guess the next step is to see how plausible this really is.

That's not too bad. One with a Sy and one with a Ty? Maybe just a simple text logo would be better... more neutral for both owners :dunno:

I'll play around with some things this week too. Anyone else want to give it a try, the more ideas we have, the better.

Syclones Suck. As acting VP I veto all Syclones showing up in the logo.

Mikey's still angry at SYCLONES because he knows they'll always be faster than Ty's ! ;) ( no hard feelings there guys !)
The benifit with Sy's as opposed to Ty's.......is, you have to listen to your mother in law when she gets hauled in your Ty !lol

I've got my mom and sister on the case (they're both CPAs and own an accounting firm), so I should know something on the tax status in a few days. For that matter, I'd be willing to offer bookkeeping services (through them) for a great rate (would have to let them know the level of paperwork, weekly work load, etc....). Not that I'd have to be treasurer or anything, but I can help in this manner if need be. Consider me volunteered if you need me.

Cool. It's looking more and more like this is something that should seriously be looked into. There seems to be enough interest and support to at least take it beyond the idea phase. And I'm sure once things get going and the word gets out, more will be interested.

I know we aren't trying to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars and get uber national recognition, but having a more organized club structure might help keep the SyTy Community together as a whole, not to mention what it can do in terms of making Nats better.

I'm for anything that helps keep our vehicles in the limelight. The idea of organizing with member dues, etc has been thrown up to the group many times in years past. Owners come and go, new ones come in.Many don't like the idea of paying dues. Many of the "original" SyTy folks have drifted away from the list and forums and events even though they still own their trucks. I have tried hard to keep up interest in our trucks within my area, I am constantly trying to seek out, chase down on street and recruit, both with the SyTy's & Turbo Buicks. We have a Southeast group with owners of both types, and have over 50 registered members. But, getting everyone on the same page, and bringing out their vehicles to meets/events is hard to do. Case in point,,,of all our registered members in the area & non-registered friends, we only had 11 owners come out to AutoFair, theoretically we could have had 50 or more!
I love the NATS! I miss going. I will make it our there again, MAYBE next year. May have to stay with friends 30 min away in Kansas who love to call me at 1:30am,LOL!
I'm not saying it can't or won't work. But it takes ALOT of effort & time not only to start it up, but to track it and keep up owner interest. I know, I'm rambling on....Let me know if you need any help.
