Anything new for "while I'm in there" front diff upgrades?

Re: Anything new for "while I'm in there" front diff upgrades? A Truetrac or Torsen would be great for one of these, if they would just make one.

Anything new for "while I'm in there" front diff upgrades?

Re: Anything new for "while I'm in there" front diff upgrades? I'm pretty sure that the Lock Right has been discontinued for the 7.2 IFS. I don't know of anything else that is available for it.

    4wd front diff

Re: 4wd front diff Do you think the vacuum system will work on a turbo truck? Do they have a vacuum pump on them?

    4wd front diff

Re: 4wd front diff It's been done. When you disconnect the right axle with the cable the front shaft still turns, but the differential spins inside so the wheels don't pull. This is good for doing burnouts with the rear wheels. I built a front and rear differential for some guys in Poland with...

    Questions about 7.5 & 7 5/8 rearends

Re: Questions about 7.5 & 7 5/8 rearends Yes, you can swap the differential and ring & pinion sets too. There is one thing that might cause a problem. The 7.5 has 26 spline axles and the 7.6 could have 26 or 28 spline axles, depending on what year it is. The axle bearings and seals are the...

    Need Front Diff Carrier Assy....

Re: Need Front Diff Carrier Assy.... I have one. I have heard of many people who tried the big hammer technique, only to damage the case. I wish I knew who started that one. There are much better ways to do this. Anyway, I have an empty 3 series case. Send me an email if you are interested.

    8.5" rear end?

Re: 8.5" rear end? You can get a 12 bolt for it. I have built several of these and used the original 3R u joint on them. It's a direct bolt in, and if you have the brakes with 4 bolts in the backing plate then they will bolt on too. If you have the earlier brakes with the odd bracket then you...

What weight fluid in differentials?! ---

Re: What weight fluid in differentials?! --- I've been using Amsoil 75W90 synthetic in them for about 10 years. Amsoil is a little harder to find, but I think it is the best. Just my opinion, take it or leave it.

    Typhoon stock axle length

Re: Typhoon stock axle length 29 inches. Most axle manufacturers should be able to tell you what the length is.

Trans rebuild and front end rebuild

Re: Trans rebuild and front end rebuild The 3.08 gears must be used on a 2 series differential. All others must be used on a 3 series differential. You can buy a 3.08 and a 2 series differential and install them in the housing that you have. It would be easier to just buy one with the 3.08...

Trans rebuild and front end rebuild

Re: Trans rebuild and front end rebuild Some guys are running too many RPMs in the 1/4 mile with the 3.42 and they are going to the 3.08s to get the RPMs down. These guys are not running over drive transmissions. You do have to change both front and rear at the same time.

Trans rebuild and front end rebuild

Re: Trans rebuild and front end rebuild The SyTys all had 3.42 gears. The S series 4X4 trucks had everything from 3.08 to 4.10 gears, so be carefull what you get. There is a code stamped on top of the aluminum case that will tell what the gear ratio is. Call your GM dealer to find out what the...

Trans rebuild and front end rebuild

Re: Trans rebuild and front end rebuild The 4X4 front diff is a direct swap, but the right axle and tube, and companion flange must be swapped from the SyTy front diff. Be sure that it has a 3.42 gear in it.

Trans rebuild and front end rebuild

Re: Trans rebuild and front end rebuild The 7.2 IFS in the front of these trucks is one of the most difficult differentials to rebuild because there is very limited access to the inside of the case when it is assembled. You would be much better off to get a good used differential from a 4X4 S10...

    Front Posi?

Re: Front Posi? I think Power Trax has discontinued the Lock Right for the 7.2 IFS. There are probably still some out there. That was the only thing available for this differential.

    Front Diff Rebuild.

Re: Front Diff Rebuild. I have built several of these differentials. You need a finger type dial indicator that will fit through the hole in the side of the case. This is one of the most difficult differentials to assemble.

    who knows about 12 bolts?

Re: who knows about 12 bolts? The object of drag racing is to go as fast as you can. More weight and drag do not help you go fast. If the 12 bolt is more than up to the task, and it will do it lighter and easier, then why add extra weight and drag? The 12 bolt will easily hold up in one of...

    who knows about 12 bolts?

Re: who knows about 12 bolts? The 9 inch will add a bunch of unneeded weight. It is the heaviest of the performance rear ends, and it also takes more power to turn it. The only way that you can make quick gear ratio changes is if you have 2 complete chunks assembled and ready to go, which means...

    ty front diff?

Re: ty front diff? The 7.2 IFS is one of the more difficult differentials to rebuild. The Typhoon came with 3.42 gears. You can swap the complete differential assembly with any S series 4X4 or AWD with a 3.42 gear, except the ZR2. If you use a 4X4 differential you will have to swap the...
