Ty in One Lap of America.

Re: Ty in One Lap of America. I'm glad you were there. It's good to talk to someone who knows what I'm driving. I really had fun at Hallett, playing in the mud and all! It may take a while to get all the Oklahoma mud and grass out of it. The truck is washed, and sitting in the garage waiting to...

Ty in One Lap of America.

Re: Ty in One Lap of America. The wastegate was still set at 26psi, but with the exhaust leak it never made that kind of boost. I didn't think to see what it was making. Sitting in the stageing lanes heatsoaking everything for 10 minutes before a run didn't help either. I'll get it fixed and...

Ty in One Lap of America.

Re: Ty in One Lap of America. Thanks for the interest, guys. This was the first year for my Typhoon at a One Lap event. We had some problems, but none that kept us from finishing the event. The highlights include: The shift linkage came loose on the transmission and would not go past third...

    R. F. Axle housing problems

Re: R. F. Axle housing problems As a point of refrence, the new axleshaft from GM doesn't have two holes drilled in the flange like the old one did. This means if the inner CV joint needs to be vented through the flange side, there's nowhere for it to breathe. The CV axle I have on the right...

    R. F. Axle housing problems

Re: R. F. Axle housing problems Mine still has the origional C.V.axles in it. I was going to replace them but I've seen Reman axles that were no good out of the box. Instead, I decided to swap the side to side, figuring if there is any wear in the joints, now I'm pulling on the good side. I'm...

    R. F. Axle housing problems

After cruising along at highway speeds for a couple minutes, I can hear a rotational noise from the right front corner of the truck. It sounds BAD. After jacking it up, I could see where the right front axle had worked its way out of the housing and was hitting the frame. The noise was the six...

    Larger Front Disc Upgrade

Not those, they are about 12.5" C5's I'm useing these: Auct #2437108054 Sorry about the confusion. I know a guy who makes brackets for LT1 F-bodies (12" rotors stock) to use C5 rotors, and the offset moves the caliper out far enough he has to run wheel spacers for clearance. For this reason...

    Larger Front Disc Upgrade

I'm useing the C4 Heavy Duty, aka ZR1, rotors. There is a guy selling them for 109.99pr on E-bay. Scott

    Larger Front Disc Upgrade

The pictured set up will need at least 17" wheels. Not all 17's will clear. I have "knockoff-reproductions" that clear fine. I wanted the biggest rotor that was close to working. The bolt pattern, offset, and center hub hole is about ideal. If you use the C5 rotors (12.5") the offset puts...

    Larger Front Disc Upgrade

I bought my C5 calipers off E-Bay for about $150.00 pr. and I recently bought rotors at a buy it now for $110.00. I've bougth three pairs of calipers at about the same price, 2 new pair, 1 used pair. I had some friends at a machine shop make me the brackets. I'm sure it got billed with the...

    Larger Front Disc Upgrade

I made bracket to install C5 calipers and ZR1 13" rotors on my typhoon. I also installed LS1 rears and they seem to work well with an adjustable proportioning valve and no ABS. I only drove it a little before I pulled the engine, but it worked fine. I plan on roadracing the truck so brakes are...

    Propshaft length?

    Propshaft length?

In my haste to get my Ty apart I forgot to measure the installed length of the propshaft. I need to know how long to make the new shaft. It's the typical two u-joint, slipjoint unit that seems to be popular. The engine and transmission are out of the truck, so I'm hopeing someone can measure...

    stock cranks above 6k RPM's ???

If I understand, the reason power fall of is because the air can't flow more than a certain amount without getting too hot. If you have a more efficient turbo, intake, head combination wouldn't the power peak at a higher RPM? How high do the guys with a steel crank rev them?

    stock cranks above 6k RPM's ???

Has anyone run a stock crankshaft above 6,000 RPM's regularly without any problems? I'm trying to build a good roadrace Ty and need to be able to accelerate out of different speed corners. This means I need a broader hp range, or more gears. As usual I'm trying to do this on a budget, so a...

    ZQ8 steering gear...?

I bought one at the local dealer, and as long as you use a 4x4 pitman arm it works fine. Quicker steering without a lot of play really helps!! Scott

    Cannonball One Lap SUV Class

    Cannonball One Lap SUV Class

Irid, I remeber your car, we stayed at the same hotel on the first night, near Gingerman. That car sounded Awsome!! The red BMW 2002, and the White Supercharged Ranger were also there. I was running a "mystic teal"(green) '95 Z-28 with Yellow sponsor graphics. Was '96 the only year for the...

    Cannonball One Lap SUV Class

Irid, What year did you run? I have run this event for 2 years now '00,'01,and we leave again in a week! You are right in your plea for car preperation. You have very little time to sleep, and car maintence would cut into your sleep time. We run in the GT2 class, and would like to run in SUV...
