Coolant over flow!

Re: Coolant over flow!

First you could tell us what the issue is. Old one gone? Space being used? To much crud :) taking up space in the engine compartment?

Ill jump on this too, I decided yesterday the factory one is in the way, takes up too much space, and previous owners hacked on the original one so it looks like a beaver was gnawing on it

I'm in the same boat. The truck I'm working on for my cousin has some jerry rigged overflow tank with zip ties. It looks like crap and it's just in the way.

I was thinking of something like this:

Amazon.com: HotRod99 3" 10" Aluminum Radiator Overflow Tank-Black: Automotive

Do I need to worry about the overflow from the intercooler or not? I picked the one above because it has two pipes on it but if I don't need to worry about the overflow on the IC then I can just pick something different and a little cheaper.

Well I don't think you need to be concerned with the IC. You can always do what the factory did and T the 2 together before the tank. However it kinda looks like that might be a pressure tank. What you need to be sure of is that it's a vented tank. All the pressure is handled by the rad pressure cap. There are a couple on that same link. Almost anything will work, it's the make it purdy part that's hard. Back in the day with vertical flow radiators the coolant was just left down a bit. There was no header tank.

Ok. Well if I don't have to worry about the IC overflow then maybe I'll keep the one I have.

It's the one that came with the RPM intake. For whatever reason the mounting bracket is gone. It's just zip tied in the area where the oil filter is. It's just in the way. It looks bad. And it seems too big for what it does anyway.

IC overflow to top fitting, radiator to lower fitting. Stainless springs hold it in place.

Re: Coolant over flow!

Interesting that you have the rad hose tied down. Did you have an issue there? Since the track didn't like my alky tank in the engine compartment I put it in the bed and went back to using the stock tank & location.

Re: Coolant over flow!

I went to autozone for some stuff and saw the tank that comes with the RPM intake kit. Which is what's on the car now. It was only $8 but it has the bracket I need to mount the thing.
