Re: Lots done...problem persists.

what about just dataloging, if your truck sees knock, it will drawback boost with a stock chip

pssst!! Little secret. I'm not the most techno-savvy guy on this board. ;) Yeah, I can do basic maintenance (cause digging in the engine compartment is so damn fun :squint:), and I can detail a truck like a mofo, but when it comes to the more technical stuff, I need help.

No guru is very close, so it's off to the shop. Bob Bigtime if he's available, Dale Cherry if he's not.

well, datamaster is kinda easy to read if you get the hang on it. it's a cheap way to diagnose your problems, if you have laptop i would be more that willing to set you upt with datamaster. and if you have done it a couple of times you know were to look for.

Do you have the spark plug wires on in the correct order?

;) I thought about this. Tech session! Will do this if I can't get it fixed in time.

Anyone have a functioning stock cat they can bring down, just in case?

Dave: Yes, plugs in correct order. Triple checked. Problem was happening prior to new wire/plugs and the ones I took out were factory.

Well I am not far down the road, and I have tuner pro and a snap on scanner. I would be glad to help troubleshoot. On of the simplest ways to check for a clogged cat is the temperature of the cat. If it is clogged it should be getting really hot. If you are trying to make boost and the cat is keeping you from making boost, it should be getting close to red hot, and showing the effects of extreme heat. Let me know if you want some free help, cause while Dale Cherry is a great place to go, it aint the cheapest.

Sounds good...I'll shoot you a PM. After reading you sig, I realize we've met. I was showing the Ty (or maybe even Sy at that point) at the Dreshertown Plaza couple of years ago. You had the STi and talked about the Ty. (My friend pulled up in a red Z06)

So did you bring your truck to Bob? What did he say? I think you need to give your truck the once over again and check all of your vacuum lines and rubber tees and elbows and vacuum plugs, and pcv. Check all of your electrical connectors too.

Re: Lots done...problem persists.

On Saturday we logged a few miles on the ty in Tunerpro. I have posted the adl file over at code59.

Hopefully someone can look at the log and shed some light on the situation. I don't know enough to provide good information, other than it seems to my butt dynomometer that the cat is clogged, but it is not a well trained dyno. Please chime in and help us fix this truck before nats.

Thanks for your help, Jeff! It was fun having another Typhoon on my street. :)

Chance that I'm driving the truck to Nats IF we can figure it out in time!!!

Re: Lots done...problem persists.

Sounds like maybe your turbo went south. Take the rubber intake elbow off the turbo and make sure you can spin the wheel freely and confirm there is no contact between the blades and housing.

Re: Lots done...problem persists.

I've had the same issue with my truck and the only thing I haven't checked yet is the exhaust housing/impeller on the turbo.. I've been too lazy to pull the exhaust and downpipe to check and have really lost interest at this point but it's worth checking out in your case if you have the time because we're having the same issue I believe.

Did. Spins freely.

Tunerpro File available at code59.org...if anybody wants to read the numbers.

Well, that's a good sign. Maybe something easier and less expensive to fix then :)

Re: Lots done...problem persists.

Check your Fuel Pressure!, and test fuel pressure Regulator. Esp because you have an extended start up problem too.

I will say that the start-up issues got a lot better once I changed sparks and wires. I checked the pressue back when that was my "only" issue and it seemed to be fine.

Not sure how to check the regulator :dunno:

Did you happen to glance at the tunerpro numbers?

UPDATE 7/28 11:00 pm

Big Mike came over tonight and hooked up fuel pressure gauge. Results:

28lbs with fuel pump hot-wired
30lbs with vac. line off, motor running
30lbs with vac line on, motor running
Driving, floored, pressure would DROP down to 10-20 lbs, often running at 10.

He also:
Checked wastegate actuator: OK
Checked timing: OK
Checked vac lines and fuel filter direction: OK
Checked vac to regulator: OK (needs minivac to check)

So, we're leaning towards fuel pump. Thoughts??

p.s. Big thanks to Big Mike

Change filter first then move on to the pump.... recheck wiring too, even though I think you just installed the Racetronics harness a while back, IIRC

His truck is pretty much stock and if you read the previous post, the fuel filter was changed and had the problem before it was changed. I think it is pump and regulator time. We went for a ride and with gas peddle floored, fuel pressure dropped to 10 psi.
