MSD 8.5 Wire Question

Anyone got these on their truck?

What type of boot is on #6, angled or straight. Is the boot/contact a multiangle type so it can be bent? Will it stay in that position over time?

I have the 3" PTE downpipe and I do not want the wire to contact it.

Thanks

most people i've seen have gotten the v8 wires, and use what you need, and keep an extra wire or two around.

#6 is a straight plug, and must be tied back with a zip tie to keep it from contacting the stock DP...... not sure about the PTE DP.
#6 is also too damn short in my oppinion.

These are my #2 selling plug wires for SyTys (2nd to Taylor). They seem to do very well. Pros are low resistance, good heat protection, a meaty plug boot (good for grip), and a good crimp design (so you don't pull the terminal out the boot when removing). Cons are (like Eric mentioned) the straight #6 wire.

FWIW, I have a set holding my shelf down as we speak. $52.99. The conflict is that for only $8 more you can get a V8 set (as dubb mentioned) that'll work with factory manifolds, headers, etc.... You'd need some specifics on the V8 set, but they are a little easier for some.

BTW, Moroso released a new line called the Ultra 40 race wires that provide the lowest resistance per ft of any commercial wire (40 ohms - whooda guessed? :D ). They're as hard to get as hen's teeth right now, but as more sets become available and they start to hit shelves, the price should come down and availability should strenghthen. Just an FYI.

I've had problems with the MSD's.

I'm currently using the ATR Black Beauties without any problems.

my experience is exactly the oposite.
also, the atr's are really easy to pull the boot off the wire, but then again i dont use a boot puller.

I have had both ATR And MSD the MSD has less resistance and I perfer them when using the ATR headers. The MSD's do have less resistance and they have a great boot.

I looked at a set of universal 8.5 wires and the grey straight boots are multiangle. I was able to bend one and it looked like it stayed.

I guess I will buy 2 sets, one with 90's and one with straights and mix and match them to make 2 sets. I can bend #6 so that it is at a 135 deg angle and that should work. #1 can be straight with the rest 90's.

Scratch buying 2 sets, almost $155

I will buy the Ty set and see how it turns out. If needed, then I will buy a Universal 4 cyl set with the multiangle and make my own #6. I am hoping that #6 that comes is a multiangle and I will not need it.

MSD Part numbers

31849 Custom set for Sy/Ty. 4 90 deg and 2 multiangle? with HEI cap boot

31239 Universal 8cyl 90deg with HEI cap boot
31179 Univ. 6 cyl Multiangle with HEI cap boot
31199 Univ. 8 cyl Multiangle with HEI cap boot
31159 Univ. 4 cyl Multiangle with HEI cap boot

I run the custom fit syty set on my truck and we have another set on Barbs stock ty. No problems with either truck at all.

The straight boot for the #6 wire will bend to whatever to want and retain that shape. Neither one of the trucks has ever burned a wire.

I love the boots, had em on and off about 3 zillion times last summer, between changing plugs, leakdown tests and plug colour checks. They still snap on nicely, never had one pull apart.

Great wires in my opinion.

John, did you use 90 degree or multi angle boots with the ATR headers?
