Need to match valve springs

I took my heads apart and found some broken dampers. I had a valve job done and am waiting for the machine shop to figure out what springs to run. For whatever reason they seem to think there aren't many options. Here is what the motor will be doing.
Has a KB cam, from what I read I will have 469 lift? with 1.6 rockers, which are what I am using.
This motor will spin close to 6k rpm.
We are using ported vortec heads with 2.02/1.60's.

For the most part, I don't want to spend a fortune but want this stuff to be well matched. If anyone has any info on what i would really need please let me know. TIA

Why not use the beehive springs that everyone talks about. They should work fine!

Thats what the machine shop said. So what spring would you run? I am open to the beehives but the machine shop says I want a 500# spring rate. I don't think the bee hives have htat.

I believe it was due to the high boost I will run along with the 6000 RPM. What ever spring was in there there was pretty good valve float, they just weren't enough I guess.

OK that makes sense. what will be the hi end on the boost you are planning on running?

Well, it will be set up to run probably as much as I want. Vortecs, JE's, o-ringed heads, I would like to run around 25psi.

500# rate is a lot for a .469 lift @ 6000RPM. A rate around 375# would work fine. Both crane and comp have 1.250 diameter springs that will cover what you have and drop in with little to no modifications.

The springs that were used on those heads are the heavy duty z28's......they are rated at 130 lbs. at 1.8" installed height and 350 lbs. at 1.2" open. Most other 1.25" OD springs fall short of these pressuresprings!


130/350 is a commonly used spring force, and goes hand in hand with 1.45" dual springs like the comp986's. or 918's...also try Crane 99846 springs........you have screw in studs so you should be fine with those seat pressures!
