Original Sy wheel colors?

Re: Original Sy wheel colors?

Syty wheels have a machined finish, most wheel shops dont deal with this finish that often, if your not out money the dude isnt a "snake" he just took on a job he couldnt complete, happens alot in this field. Im not trying to be a dick, but if you had the winter to refinish your wheels why did you wait till right before show season to dig into the project? I see his side easier because i own a shop and it always seems like march everyone comes out of the woodwork to get stuff done and there just isnt enough time in the day.

Sportmachines wheel service is the only place ive seen restore syty wheels correctly.

No offense taken, ajt86.

I wasn't going to do the wheels at all but I visited his facility, saw what he had done to other OEM wheels and was 100% okay with his abilities.
Machining is everyday operating procedure there so it wasn't like my wheels were out of his realm.
He is a great person, positively nuts over GM performance and his enthusiasm about the Sy drew me in like a magnet.
Not "just another wheel resto job".

Timing?
The big car shows I planned to attend were a month away when I turned the wheels over to him.
He swore up and down it would be done in three days.
I knew that was a pipe dream but gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Then the weeks started creeping by......the excuses piling up.
Here it is in the fourth week and I have yet to SEE any progress.
He swears they left Friday afternoon for some prep work.

In a nutshell?
I truly wish he would have just come out and said first thing, "no sir, too booked up, can't do it in that time frame".

I hope and pray it's a peaceful interaction tomorrow afternoon when I drop by.

Exhausting to say the least.

I looked at my Syclone wheels, and they do not have the machine finish.

They are original, low mile- never refinished.

I have 8 other syty wheels here and they all have the machine finish where I can run my finger nail against the grain and can hear ( let alone see ) the grooves.

And these are not polished. Just figured I would share. I noticed this a long time ago....

Hopefully you get everything ironed out and can rest your mind.

Interesting, Slyclone!

Those wheels have a "wet" look.
Maybe they're one-off's from PAS back in the day?
Thanks for sharing.

Wish you were closer.
I'd be driving over, buying a set from you and mounting my new tires on so I could drive the truck while my wheels are in "shop purgatory".

What is the history of your low mile truck. How long have you owned it? Mileage? Owners? Truck number?

I had Sportmachines do a set of spare wheels I had and they turned out great, and unless their price went up considerably in the last 6 months, they weren't that much more than what you quoted. Maybe the shipping to them and back is what gets expensive.

I put a call and email in to them yesterday.
I'm sure I'll hear from them tomorrow.

Re: Original Sy wheel colors?

The wheel guy called me at lunchtime.

Very apologetic.
And gave me a thorough breakdown of what's been done to them and what's left.
"Should be ready on Thursday".

So I gave him another chance.

Hopefully he'll come through and flat blow me away with the finished product.

Wheels

I have had one set done by a local shop that does wheels for my business. Did an awesome job on the set last time. I gave them my other wheels last Monday (23rd) and should have them later this week (April 3rd). Normally it takes them about a week turn around, but this set was rough. They sent me an email telling me it was going to take extra time. Go figure, already missed one test and tune on Sunday.

When it comes to wheel repair, this is their busy time of year, but four weeks is pretty crazy! I'm sure everything will turn out well.

Wheels on the truck!

Wheels on the truck!

Well, I finally got the wheels from the guy.
They do look awesome.
BUT.....he is unable to do the caps due to their odd curve/peak shape.

So for now I am just going to live with them and enjoy the truck for a while.
I contacted Sportmachines and they are on-board with doing the caps so time to start saving some cash.

I put new O-rings on the caps, too.
Thank you, Grainger.

New tires are on, too.
Can't wait to see how they feel. :)

Anyway, here's a picture.
