Trans governor help needed

I swapped the stock governor out of the trans with a "5k" gov I aquired(sp?) recently. Now the trans shifts even sooner than before. As in 1-2 at 4600 RPM vs 1-2 at 4900 RPM with the old one.

Any thoughts? The only diff between the old shift points/governor and the new stuff is its COLD out(way lower IATS) and Im only running 17-18psi where as I was running 25+ psi before. Would the lower boost cause the early shift at WOT?

Im trying to get the 2-3 shift to happen a little later as it was shifting early IMO at the nats(shift happened at 4625 RPM) which pulled the eng WAY down on RPM.

BTW... The shifts dont seem as hard/firm now either with the 5k gov in there. :-? :-? I guess I could put the old one back in and try to manually shift it 2-3 but all I see happening is me bouncing off the rev limiter with my slow ass reactions.

Opinions, thoughts, ideas welcome.

not too unusual that they don't work right. I put one in and it wouldn't shift at all wot. took it out and I was back to normal. try another one and see if it works properly

You could try the B&M governer kit, but it's kind of a pain because you have to change the weights 2-4 times or maybe even more to fine tune the shift RPM.

Thanks for the thoughts guys... Im just gonna put the old one back in as Im going to the track on Fri and dont have time to experiment(and my goody goody "peace, love, hug a tree, and kiss a dolphin" neighbor called the law on me for testing).

The SOB called the law on me for capping a ground hog the other day too. No problemo ya "time out", mamby pamby little twit... The trees you planted on MY property just had a bad day. I see a tractor vs tree event in my future  What a tool.

Sorry got off on a rant there.. :-?

try drilling a 1/8in hole in each of the flyweights. that usually raises the shift points a couple hundred rpm's not sure why it's lower on yours than mine. I bet it's bc your running much less line pressure.

Big boost valve in there if that makes a diff.

i dont see how your susposed to drill the actual weights. they are hardened, and the drill bit just slides around on them.

it's BC your a pussy. and yeah dave I know you got the big BV cause I sold it to ya. you drill the inner part that the spring actually contacts. not the outer casing. and it's hard but not impossible. and if you cant drill it take the thing apart and grind off an ear.

all your trying to do is remove a few ounces of material from each flyweight.

Boost will effect your shift points, so will a really nasty launch, when I made my 11.0 passes the 1/2 shift would happen at 6300, when I launch it easy it shifts at 6000, and when I pussy foot it, it'll shift at 5700. I pissed around with trying to get it right, but give up after try #10.

Thanks Mark. Thats the info I was looking for.. I might just have to swap governors at the track to see where the shift points are vs RPM(once I get the trans back togeather this winter  )
