Combating adversyty.
Please could someone give me some ideas as to what it going on with my truck?
Yesterday I filled the tank and flushed all the fuel lines with new 97 octane stuff mixed in with 10l of older petrol that had been sitting for about 1 year. It was all stored in the correct gas cans and seemed good.
I tried to start the truck all day yesterday and all day today and am really nowhere nearer getting it running.
My setup is:
stock block .030 over
vortecs
50# injectors from RPM
415 cam
stock crank
I set the timing with a gun and verified TDC on #1 using the exhaust valves opening and closing in the correct sequence. TDC also ties in with the second timing mark on the balancer that I have - new but same as old one.
My Dad and I also verified the firing order and TDC using a rod in the cylinders and waiting for the pistons to come up - all pointing to TDC being in the correct place, the cam having 0 timing and the balance marks being correct.
So far so good.
The distributor was way off but with the inductive coil pickup timing gun we checked that the #1 was firing on TDC. I checked all other cylinders and they were firing as well. Note this was all done using a series timing lamp before I got a newer one.
All plugs are gapped at .032 (TR6s)
I have some heavy duty battery cable after the battery relocate and ran that to the starter then directly to the alt. Purple wire is in good condition. I have a battery booster and a 780A battery. Cranking is not a problem.
Fuel pump is a brand new Walbro 255 (from 2 years ago, been waiting to get to work on the truck so I am pretty sure it isn't one of the cheap copies)
Fuel pressure gauge indicated 42 psi - it's misbehaving at the moment and is a bit intermittent - very annoying. I have anew AFPR. Again, been sitting for a while but doesn't seem to be a problem.
Oil pressure rises on ignition.
I tried using PROMinator and a BIN from sytyguy as well as pluggin in my old ECM and stock bin (expecting it to run rich but at least start. Both appear to work ok but have yet to make an impact
Tan wire is disconnected.
I have adjusted the dis a couple of degrees either side to no avail. I tried 180 degrees out on the dis but that had no effect.
firing order: 1,6,5,4,3,2
65
43
21
With the ECM in and my foot to the floor, the truck pops and bangs and hisses like it is trying to go but it really struggles.
tried the ECM A and B fuse resets, shuffling the dis eaither side of TDC etc...no improvement.
What should I do next? I am so close to this thing running. Please could someone help me out. If there was a number for me to call that would be great. Another member on the board has been awesome but we are stuck for ideas.
Anyone got any?
:dunno:
Thanks in advance.
