Pass side fuel injectors:

I honestly think the timing is set correctly so I am wondering what else the issue could be?

Spark = ok
Timing = ok

I am thinking something is up with the injectors but I'm not sure what it could be? Any suggestions?

I could take off the rail and bypass the fuel pump and just see if all the injectors fire properly? Is there another way of doing this?

What else am I missing?
Nevermind, I'm thinking of my FAST harness which has different colors. If you look at the injector connector you'll see a number that corresponds to the correct cyclinder. From what I can see it looks correct.

See the 2 & the 6 in your pic?

What about the rest of the harness connectors? Do you have everything hooked up? TPS, IAC, CTS, IAT, MAP?

TPS -yes
IAC - yes
CYS - yes
IAT - yes
MAP = 2 Bar

so the injectors look ok - am gonna go check quickly.

I don't have EGR - dunno if that makes a difference?

block off plate on the upper intak plenum and the hoses are gone.

:(

Am going to look at the injectors tomorrow and see if they are triggering and firing correctly.
Just checked and all injectors are in the right place :(

Re: trying to start .... please could someone help?

starter fluid in the AM followed by a comp test if that yields no results.

Re: trying to start .... please could someone help?

As I am asleep and not actually writing this I I can't tell you that I'll know more in the morning when I am awake and have got the starter fluid :D

As annoying as it is, I am very excited to be this close to getting it working :D

:woot:

It's only a matter of time now.

You type very well for someone who is asleep. You'll get it tomorrow. After a little tea.... anything is possible. ;)

Restab the distributor with the rotor pointing 180* in the opposite direction of the photo. This happens to me all of the time.

just to refresh, what bin is in it now and what injectors and what map sensor.

Re: trying to start .... please could someone help?

stock bin, stock ECM, 2 bar MAP, 50# injectors, 42 psi on mechanical and electrical fp gauges.

I just took the valve covers off to verify the timing and lash adjust etc..

I made these two videos - looks ok?

I tried starting fluid and got nothing at at all, not even a stumble. I did the 180 degree swap again and had the same result. The firing on no1 was exactly TDC, maybe 2 or 3 degrees advanced.

Dist is secured.

This is really starting to concern me. I am going to go go a comp test on no 1 and see what I get.

The engine was decked and faced and I have brand new Cometics undet the heads, followed the workshoip manual exactly, 3 cycles up to 65ftlbs with ARP thread lube/sealer on the studs. I don't think it will be compression but I have to rule it out.

I put copper slip on the spark plugs to make removal easier - they wouldn't be insulated and therefore not sparking would they? The path of the spark should be through the tip into the mix and the block so I can't see that as the issue.

Really stumped.

Try new plugs, you probally soaked the ones in ther now with fuel from trying to start so much.

Something looks wonky (tech term for wrong) with the pass side injector layout.
It looks like the injector wire on the top is in the wrong location.

Get the color codes from each of the injector connectors for 2, 4 & 6 & we'll compare notes.

Matters not.

All 6 injectors file at the same time, unless you've rewired.

Generally 50s will at least fire and run crappy with a stock chip in there.

Re: trying to start .... please could someone help?

It's not looking good.

Comp test results:

1 - 30 psi
2 - 0 psi
3 - 0 psi
4 - 0 psi
5 - 0 psi
6 - 0 psi

I tested the gauge twice and it was consistent so the gauge is ok. I verified it with a leakdown test as well.

Leak down test said 50 percent of the air at 90 psi was leaking.

Spoke with the builder. My brand new engine is coming out this weekend or tonight depending on how I feel.

Just as an additional bit of info, it in really really hard to turn it over without a tool. I weight 100kgs and was hanging off the crank using the belt as a grip and it barely budges. Plugs out so no resistance from compressing cylinder.

That's not normal is it?

The injectors surely don't fire all at once? wouldn't that mess up the timing - injector firing on exhaust stroke?

Re: trying to start .... please could someone help?

well - whoever v8tty is on chat, I owe you a beer - Morgan and Rene and Don W. too.

After thinking it was 0 compression due to crappy rings installation, I did a leakdown check after I removed the rocker posts.

I then got 0 leaks.

I went on syty chat and v8tty told me lash was badly adjusted... I checked...

I then adjusted the lash and did a comp test and up from the 0 psi I got 150-170 psi on all cylinders - a huge change as you can imagine.

I reassembled the engine(plugs/wires/dp ect) and fired her up and NEARLY got an idle

She sounds so much better - plenty of compression, just won't QUITE run...

What do I do next.

stock chip, 2 Bar, 50#injectors, 42 psi..

timing is +/- 20 from TDC - sounds like f-cking truck man :D

This weekend I will get the idle sorted :D

So pleased - hence being drunk :D

I was ready to pull the engine out after talking to the builder for 40 min and ruling out everything. I bought an engine cradle today and was all set to ship the engine. I am calling him tomorrow to apologise and thank him. He was going to ship it and correct it - a true professional :D

Re: trying to start .... please could someone help?

I was thinking that - I have an ECM with a 50 BIN loaded - should I try with that? Just trying to stick with what I know....

Considering I was 30 min away from pulling the engine, I am very pleased. I can't stress how much now I wonder that people with poor running trucks have a lash issue...
