Possibly check your ECM fuses. I know years ago on the way back from the KC Nationals, my Ty just completely shut off on the highway. Turned out to be the ECM fuses. Check both.

Did you lose power to the starter too? Does the dash work? Maybe you lost ecm power (fuse) or poss. ignition modual? Just throwing some things out there.

This happened to me but only when i would make a right hand turn. The wire behind the alternator was barley hanging on. I put a new connector and issue was resolved. The reason you have power to the radio is probably becasue they went straight to battery with power. Is it an aftermarket unit? Good luck!

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

Thanks for the quick repilies. I have power to everything including the starter...so here goes;

OK, I recently replaced my fuel pump. I highly suspected that as the issue.

Got her home and hooked up the fuel pressure gauge. I'm @ 60 with KOEO then it drops to 0. When I crank the car over, fuel psi hits and stays @ 60. I don't think the fuel pump is the problem...here's why.

I also hooked up an extra spark plug wire and plug to the distributor. Then I grounded the plug to the manifold. NO SPARK. I know spark is the issue...always remember; SPARK, Fuel, Air.

NO SPARK...why? I gotta jam to work so any help would be geatly appreciated!

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

I would guess ignition module.... could be something as simple as the coil wire or possible bad coil.

Is the 'check engine' light on with the ignition to the 'on' position?

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

If your scantool shows reasonable rpm when cranking, then the stator is working and the module is sending a reference signal to the ECM. You can put a testlight onto the negative side of the coil and see if it flashes when cranking-that would tell you the module is providing a ground or not. If it isn't providing the ground, you will just see a constant light. At that point it would be "pretty" safe to throw a module at it.

Gotta watch this thread close, same darn thing just happened to me a few hours ago. I have fuel pressure and starter too but no spark, and my check engine is on, but I've never been able to communicate it to a scan tool. Truck does have an MSD box as well, waiting to read more advice before buying a bunch of stuff i dont need. THX-Ryan

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

OK, I got home @ 9 am and just woke up from a nap....UP all freaking night @ work wiht BS calls and a huge fire and i'm trying to find the motivation to work on my TY. A strong cup of coffee and i'll be out there;) I'll keep ya all updated on my progress. I have an old stock coil off of my 91 Z28 that I may try just in case it's the coil, but I highly doubt it is the problem.......

Have either of you consulted Chart A-3 in the SyTy Service supplement?

I have the 3 pages of that chart scanned in PDF and can email it.

"If the chip is installed correctly, and you definitely have both spark and fuel pressure, your ignition module is dead. A bad ignition module won't generate a reference pulse preventing the injectors from firing. Part number is 1048-2827 (located under your distributor cap, BTW). Some auto chain stores can test to confirm it it's good or bad."

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

I was able to pull out the spark module today. That's all I had time to do. Took about 15 mintues, then I had a family function to attend. I spoke with a guy I trust @ autozone who infact said that they could test the module. it's only 38 bucks so I hope it is bad. Keep ya informed when she's tested and hopfully fixed!

Thank you all for the help!

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

Just make sure to have it tested *several* times. Heat makes them malfunction. When they test it, it will get hot. A few of my friends have had problems with ignition modules in their GM trucks. I told them to have them tested several times too. The module would pass the first test. The second time it would fail 2 or 3 tests. By the third test, it would fail 4 or 5 of the tests. Usually by the fourth test, it would fail everything... Autozone has a Duralast module, DR140, that is a direct replacement for ours and has a lifetime replacement warranty.

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

So if you still have spark and fuel it could be the module, but I have NO spark at the coil. So it could be the same part? My truck has an MSD 6AL and an MSD Coil, could that cause it as well? I tried to let it cool off and turn it over again 12 hours later...nothing just spins. Someone also suggested the ECM fuse? Could that be a possibility? I appreciate all you guys help, I'm far from an expert on this truck yet, owner since Februrary..lol

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

Well, I had my ignition module tested and it passed 10 times! The interesting thing is that my rotor under the cap would not come off. I had to pry it off with a pry bar till it broke, I'm thining WTF? Now, there is a plate that is where the ignition module and cap attache to, well, the stem where the rotor attaches to has a metal ring with a 6 point star in side in reference to teh cap/plug attachments. That ring is loose, I can turn it about 1/16th left & right. Is this normal? I do not know how to post a link to the picutre as the only place my pictures are at is on a folder on my dest top. :(

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

That's normal. Mine was hard to get off the dist first time as well.

The 6 point star thing is a sping shock retainer thing and was loose on mine too.

Are all the connections made to the ign module? Did you reinstall it with the heat gel? Checked the ECM fuses?

No codes?

Re: Ty died on the way 2 work???

No codes at all.

I replaced my distributer and coil. It's running!!! I swapped the old coil back in and the Ty runs fine. I think the pickup in the distributer was bad, had to have been. Coil was fine, ignition module checked out fine and was tested 10 times and passed every time. Now, the ignition module still could have been bad, but from all the tests, everything is pointing to the distributer.

The thing is my Ty was running fine and it just flat out DIED while I was driving to work.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR EFFORTS IN HELPING ME!!! I must say the community here on SYTY.NET is amazing. Everyone helps each other here & I'm thankful for everyone here!
