Great pics! The One Lap website needs a lot of work.

Will they release footage of the entire event on DVD at all? That would be worth having just for the footage of the Ty.

That would be great! Maybe take a new set of NGK's with you... I know he could use a new set of plugs :D
Scott says the rest of Ty is sticking together in one piece.... I think 975 miles from Hallett to IRP...oops, ORP in one night - he should be good and fried by tomorrow morning! :sleepy: :sleepy:

You got a phone # for him? I'd be more than happy to take some to him. Or do you know what kind he needs? If he doesn't use them, I know I will in 4 years when my Ty is back together.

I forgot I have to get some blood work done today out on that side of town anyways, so I'm definately going to stop by. Going to try to leave here in about an hour or so and head that way.

I don't have Scott's number, or any way to contact him.... with his build (Bowtie, Vortecs, bigger compressor) I really wouldn't know what to recommend... maybe some of the gurus here would have a suggestion.....
Have fun, and let us know how he does in the drags....

Re: Ty in One Lap of America.

I know that 3 Car and Driver photographers were at Hallett shooting a bunch of pics. Also, Tony Swan (longtime writer at C&D was there), so at least we'll see a writeup in a future C&D issue.

Re: Ty in One Lap of America.

I just got back to the dealership after spending a few hours there making "sales calls." Hey, I talked to a wholesale sales rep from Tire Rack, and thats where we get our tires from, so I'm doing my job. I have a bunch of pictures and some video. Don't know how good the video is being it was from a regular digicam, but I'll see once I load them in. Scott was almost done changing the plugs when I got there. He's using TR6s btw. He said it ran a lot better than it has been. Only problem is that they have to jack the truck up and short the starter solenoid in order to get the truck started. So he wastes a lot of gas sitting at idle while waiting in line. So unfortunately, he ran a little low on gas and was sucking air at some points on the track. The Honda Odyssey is just bad ass. No way he's going to beat him, but the VW that is in his class, he should beat him. I guess it had been pretty close between them, but Scott was gaining ground on him on this track. I'm going to try to head back out to IRP, err, ORP after work and hopefully see some of the drag racing. I'll get pics and video posted as soon as I get caught up from all these messages I have in front of me.

Re: Ty in One Lap of America.

Well, they ended up cancelling the bracket racing. Just did low ET which counted as an event. They gave him 2 passes, his lowest was 14.8, so he's way down on power. Running 24 lbs of boost. Something isn't quite right. So he's on his way to mid-ohio. His cross-over pipe is falling apart, so he's going to have to work on that in the morning as well.

Ok, got my pictures and videos uploaded. At least all of Scotts truck.

Here are some videos. Not the best because they were from my digital camera, but decent enough.
Video of what they have to go through just to start the truck

Re: Ty in One Lap of America.

Thanks for the interest, guys.

This was the first year for my Typhoon at a One Lap event.
We had some problems, but none that kept us from finishing the event.
The highlights include:
The shift linkage came loose on the transmission and would not go past third gear.
The alternator died and we*almost* made it to the parts store on the battery
The solder melting on the starter terminal- we removed it and resoldered it- It lasted1 1/2 days
The exhaust crossover pipe blew apart on Monday and we had to slide it together and reclamp it daily.
The water injection box quit working so we had no charge cooling.
Fouled a set of spark plugs.
Picked up a nail and had a flat on the highway at night
Ran out of gas- once

It goes without saying that if the truck was running to its potential, and I was less distracted by things like not being able to restart the truck if it stalled, we could have placed higher.

The Honda Manufacturing of Alabama Odyssey was very well prepared, and they only had one problem all week. This is one of the two vans they ran last year. It's a 3.5 v6 sleeved block with lower compression pistons running 10-12 psi boost through an Acura TL 6 speed with a limited slip. They were cool guys and were wrenching on the Typhoon at Pueblo Motorsports Park with me and my dad.

They are working on a 1 hour TV show about this years One Lap.

Any more Questions, just ask!

Thanks,
Scott Breneman

Re: Ty in One Lap of America.

Hey Scott, nice to see you on here. I see you remembered your password.

Were you still running the 24psi during the drag racing? If so, did you figure out why you were so down on power?

Re: Ty in One Lap of America.

The wastegate was still set at 26psi, but with the exhaust leak it never made that kind of boost. I didn't think to see what it was making. Sitting in the stageing lanes heatsoaking everything for 10 minutes before a run didn't help either. I'll get it fixed and see what it turns at a local track.

Thanks for offering the use of your shop, we just wanted to get to Mid Ohio.
It's also more comfortable to work on the exhaust after it sits for a while and cools off.

Re: Ty in One Lap of America.

I'm glad you were there. It's good to talk to someone who knows what I'm driving.
I really had fun at Hallett, playing in the mud and all!
It may take a while to get all the Oklahoma mud and grass out of it.
The truck is washed, and sitting in the garage waiting to get torn down to resolve the issues we had over the last week. I want to have it ready for some of the SCCA Hillclimbs and track days that are run in this area.

It was a great week and lots of fun.Our odyssey was great but after getting back I could not get the thought of the GMC Typhoon out of my head.So what does a normal red blooded American male do when he gets in this shape ? You guessed it ,wait until you get to work so you can surf the internet and get more info.I have always been interested in these GMCs but after spending the week following one I am now in love with them.I am now looking for a way to explain to my wife I want to buy a 15 year old all wheel drive turbo pick up truck.
All of you guys can be very proud of Scott and his GMC.He drove the wheels off of it all week.We over the week got to know Scott and Bob pretty good and they are fine people.
Talking with him (sorry for this Scott ) he is thinking of selling the Typhoon and getting a Corvette for next year.Maybe you guys can help me convince him to run the Typhoon next year also.It looks like he is already building a fan base(including me) for he and the one lap Typhoon.

Re: Ty in One Lap of America.

It was awesome watching you guys in the Honda at Hallett, Paul! That thing has one hell of an exhaust note, as well as being obviously very fast! You've got a bunch of fans here at Kicker :D

.

A pick up (Syclone) WOULD be a hard sell to the wife. A Typhoon (a virtual grocery-getter!) would be easier....especially if you have kids and need to haul them.

Welcome! We're here to help!
