What's happened to the "old" timers?

Re: What's happened to the "old" timers?

Gotta agree with Hood here and the non-existance of ground breaking posts. I remember back when the romulator was the newest coolest thing on the planet! haha, that was a while ago. Still, some of us are much more knowledgable than we were back when, so that says something i guess for the effectiveness of the boards. And as for the bickering, i've made many life long friends over the internet and at nats so i can't complain.

I remember "Jeezus" climbing that pole @ about 11:00 at night and swinging back and forth on it from the top. That pole was flexing several feet in each direction directly above 4-5 SyTys, and all I could think about was, "Do the pole companies do a durability test for that kind of stress?"

Then, he gets in the back of a Sy and does a Tony Jaa/Chuck Norris display with everyone watching. He had a pair of shorts that looked like a cross between Daisy Duke and Lou Ferrigno.

I'll dig up some pics of that joker today too.

After he finally DID go to sleep, someone told him that his truck was getting messed with (just to keep it going). I think that was when he ran down and put on the Chuck Norris num chuck show for us. Remember the brake torque that he did in his full size dodge? What a piece of work, and his wife was just as bad. Didn't he have an aspen blue Ty? Wonder what happened to that poor truck.

I have a pic of him in something like that from '98. I'll have to find it and scan it.

He had a red/grey that was pretty clean, but he rolled it within a year of the 2000 nats.

Yes the good old days reading on the internet all night about these trucks. I think I joined the mailing list in 95 and have been following along ever since.

IMO most of the "old timers" just pussed out and sold their shit.

F'em.

It was more exciting back then because things were unknown.Every newfound trick or bit of knowledge was held in higher regard because of the multiplicity of the advancement.

Ive only read the 1st and 5th pages, being that I only caught this thread now and Im about to run out the door, but Peter H. is living in north Jersey now and doing very well for himself. He now owns 2 MKIV Supras, 1 Red 600+ HP daily driver and 1 RSP Widebody crazy HP show/race. He still lurks on here once and a while so I wont post anymore than that, if he wishes to share more he can do it himself ;)

Hey Holli !
I'm still here! I check the board maybe 2x / week, just to see what's going on/new. I still have my Ty & GN, am also heavily into keeping our "local" SyTY/GN/Turbo Regal group interested in their vehicles. You could join up too, we're Southeast GM Turbo Power6 (GM_TURBO6@yahoogroups.com) and we are a group local to N.C. & surrounding states(SC,VA, TN, GA). We have monthly meets, beach trips(Myrtle Beach), as well as a lot of impromptu gatherings. We're showing at Charlotte AutoFair next weekend. Other than trying to keep 2 turbo vehicles running at a time, I've spent the last 2 years nursing my left wrist, which got messed up pretty bad after I fell on ice, 2 surgeries later, still having problems with that. I wanted to go to the Nats last 2 years, but no way I could drive that far 1-handed. My son wants to go to Dukes of Hazzard festival in Nashville the last weekend in May, so we may be up your way then. I see Nicki online some, she and Pete hang out more with the S-Series group. Some of us old timers actually do still own our trucks!

Just curious as to where all the "old" timers have went and hidden at. Been gone for awhile and just looking to see where everyone from the old days have gone to....Steve Nunley, Ivan Phipps, Peter Humblias, Chris P., Wanda Brooks, Cheryl, Pete and Nicki Gardepe, Guy Lavy, Brian Hartman, Sean Morris, and all the true syty gurus.

Re: What's happened to the "old" timers?

Jeff was talking about the 3 bar stuff. Brought back some memories.
I was at a meet here in Ohio many years ago. Got to meet Todd Austinson. He was JUST making the 8-n-1 chips and had just gotten into the 3 bar calibrations. We all ate lunch, came out to find Todd's window of his Ty busted out and his laptop stolen....along with all the 3 bar info he had. I sent him my setup back so he could pull all the info off of it so he could get the original cals back. Frigging thief had no idea what he'd done. I remember sitting there with him and a couple other fellows for almost an hour while we waited on the police to show up while everyone else went to Jegs. I felt so bad for Todd. That sucked big time.
Yeah. I've been around a while. I remember the Ivan Phipps incident (fuel rails, personal incident, etc). I thought that would be the end of the list for sure. I'm really glad that was overcome.
As far as saying F'em to the old guys. I wouldn't say that. It set up a foundation. It has become less personal with BB but also opened it up to a larger group.
