have a friend pry while you try to start the bolt. It also helps to have fresh new hardware with clean threads. DOing this all by yourself is pretty scary b/c there isnt much to grab onto for leverage.

Anyone have a part number for exhaust manifold bolts and studs?

Or thread info and I can get my own.

3/8-16" grade 8 is all you need.. dont recall the length off the top of my head, but just measure the thickness of the manifold where the bolt goes in. I think some are deeper then others.

As for the spreader tool, i dont think it will work b/c it is too long. Myclone always comes up with the cheapest and easiest ways to fix something. Last manifold i had, i couldnt pry enough. I had to stick it on the mill and elongate the holes.. what a PITA.

Thanks Mike. We just heated them in an over at 500 deg for an hour. They went on with no problem. We were 1/2" off on one set of holes. But upon the removal, we broke the far right manifold bolt. Son of a!

Re: exhaust manifold installation?

I combined all the tips mentioned above and everything went on well. I started the middle bolts and the ones at the front of the truck. Then put a heat gun into the hole where the crossover tube mounts to. Has it heated up I slowly turned the exhaust spreader until the rear bolt holes were aligned. Then i tightened everything up.

Re: exhaust manifold installation?

They make tools to spread them and line them up because they tend to warp alittle sometimes.
