Ignition Upgrades

Sorry I've been busy with a bunch of things, and still working on making our oddfire/LS1 coil setup work.

Once i get that to work, I'll know for certain what does/doesn't work, and can get all of our documentation posted.

Ok so... with the PTE harness installed on my truck there was not a "points" wire used. I tried to use this as a tach signal but it appears to be dead on the configuration I have on the FAST right now.

So do you know ifyou have to have it set up for hall effect sensor, or what is the setup needed.. I know we discussed this breifly with a PM but do I need to have the FAST reprogrammed or is it a direct hookup... Harry never did call me back.

Well whatever wire controls timing on the FAST, that's what you'd use on the eDist. So you'd either have to splice in a wire, or get a connector to your coil connector.

The key is the cam signal now. The reluctor setup we have on Ryan's typhoon doesn't seem to work, at least w/o mods. The dual sync distributor should be a different type of signal and should work.

Ok.. well given that.. I think I will go ahead and get a distributor on order and an Edist... then the coils and other parts sould be easy.

I have a signal already hooked up to the coil as my transmission computer already uses one. I guess either the EST wire from the FAST would work.

You guys might want to look at Crane part numbers:
715-0020
700-2226

Might give you some ideas. You could essentially generate whatever
pulse stream you wanted with some aluminum discs and a drill bit.

One thing... the discs need to be dead accurate. On a 3" disc, 10* is .261".
.050 off and you're advancing/retarding a cyl 2*.

A good, accurate steel protractor and a caliper to double-check things
with would be a must...

Later,

Dig

Hey would a dist. from a 97? up work. My 01 4.3 dist. has a cam sensor built in it. (hall effect)
Also I see the pop. choice for coils here are the LS1's. Well does anyone know their output? Sure they'll get 6 times the time for saturation, but what's the V & A? Will it be close to the 1.5 amps we can get now with the MSD 8252?
