There was a Royal recently for sale on craigslist in Cali with no rack and looked clean.
The one in your avatar is Alan D's old truck outta Hawaii. Super clean truck, low mile as well when he sold it.

That truck has been for sale on and off. I called about it one of the multiple times it was offered for sale. As I recall it needed a bit of love and TLC. Heres one mod to do.... lower it. Torsion bars up front, crank em down. 2 or 3" blocks out back depending on your preference. Hope you scored it for a good price.

I see your already looking for a chip. STOP.
You have a stock truck. You need to go through the entire truck and get it running in top condition as is. You need to get a laptop and get datamaster and run diagnostics on it.
Safety mods include Fuel pump, AFPR, reroute the stock IC lines with 3/4" hose, replace the stock IC pump with a better unit, plugs, wires, cap/rotor.
When you have a stock truck running with no knock, then start thinking about a chip.

I dont know...was it? Right now the value of these trucks are way down. People are scoring them for stupid cheap. If your GN was in the same condition and around the same mileage, and its what your happy with, then Id say yeah. Royals are a rare color.... even better when they dont have roof racks.
I dont know what you paid, but that truck right now as it sits in those pics Id put it at $7500-8000. Being Royal and almost stock helps it.

Me personally, I like either the stock AC CR42TS or NGK UR5s. Those are the popular ones. Might as well throw in a 160 or a 180* thermostat.

Use the search mode in this forum and you'll learn a LOT. If you suspect a problem, guaranteed you're not the first one to experience it...so look it up.
Was it worth the trade? That's somewhat subjective. Depends on the condition/mileage of the GN you traded. Even though Turbo Regals have come down a bit in the past year, they've held their value since '87. Remember, Ty's were about $30k when they were new.
Aside from the upgrades Adam references above, if you start tweaking it, you'll be chasing issues for years. Keep it stock, tune it up, upgrade as necessary. This is a different animal than a GN and is even more finicky.
As far as "hearing about trucks"...this group keeps close tabs on SyTys for sale and those that have a history of being for sale (like yours) are well known.

Im an ex-royal owner and keep track of them....and usually when they come up for sale, its a big deal....an the only time cars rust out here is if you dont take care of them as in any location. Ive had my Sy for 10+ years and many other vehicles. None of them have ever started to rust under my ownership.
This is a small community. You'd be very surprized...there are certain trucks that people follow or know of already. I remember calling about your truck about 1.5 years ago when it started to be put up for sale.
I personally run a 160. Up to you if you want to run that cold. Cali weather is much different than here :tup:
Oh, and FL makes up a decent percentage of SyTy Owners. The last count was like 170+ known trucks.

yeah thats is true, the GN and SY/TY do have one thing in comin MONEY PITS, but its all worth it when you see the shock in people eyes when they get whooped by old tech! The GN I traded was from Hawaii and it had some minor rust issues but but was stock 114k and ran like raped ape!

Crap I did know the truck was for sale that long, Well Im glad I got a rare color.
I heard florida is beautiful just like its woman, but some of my buick buddies purchased GNs out there and were sad after there Ttops were rusty as hell. but it must of been from neglectfull owners.

Hope you enjoy your truck. I just met a guy who put a TPI 350 in his S10. Took him for some boost launches, now he's not so interested in finishing his s-truck. Like everyone says, get it running right, see what you think before modding and stressing the powertrain even more.:tup:

wow the truck looks much darker in your avatar than in the pic syo237 posted, nice truck. my buddies dad had a really nice 87 GN he had it painted and fixed a few little items and i think he only got 9k out of it. so your trade sounds like you got a good deal
