Another Totaled Typhoon

Re: Another Totaled Typhoon

I'm insured with Allstate, and the person who hit me was insured with USAA. I went through USAA and they valued the truck at $14,900 (2X what I could sell the truck for) and if I buy it back I get $12,000 since the buyback was $2900.

I just don't particularly have the room to part it out anymore or the time for a post office run every day along with all the deal making.

Buy it back and sell it right away to a SyTyer (as others have said...so it doesn't wind up in a junkyard). It would gone in a day....and someone else can do the parting. :2cents:

Good luck. Sucks about the truck.

Now you have money to buy mine, and I might consider taking the totaled one in partial trade. (I won't try to fix it).

That sounds like the best option to me. Glad to hear that you didn't get messed up :). I am insured with Allstate and the buy back on my DD (1997 Pontiac Sunfire) was only $68 when they totaled it after I hit my second deer .

Re: Another Totaled Typhoon

After the luck your having im sure you just want to take your money and bounce from the syty game for a while... but I'd buy it back and swap the drive train into something else or part it out little by little when time and effort were there.

Take the passenger rear corner off today no matter what you choose to do. Someone here will need it.

X2. But IMO, if someone is REALLY interested, get a deposit first. Many people's sentiments change when it's someone elses money (What I would do is...) versus when it's their money.

I agree. Now if the buyback was $2000 vs the $2900 I really don't think there would be a question on buying it back. The profit vs hastle on parting it is not huge...

That's really interesting that you got $14,900 ($12,000 paid out and buy back $2900)....good looking truck. I guess when USAA rep looked at it , they could see how nice it was and hence the high pay-out. That's my biggest fear ... get in a wreck by some text'r and only get pennies on the dollar not to mention all the time and effort put into the truck over the years. Glad to see a fair payout by USAA, and glad you're alright, no pains etc...

I'll have to ask my State Farm rep about the collector's adder if available or go to Haverty's...

I wont be out of the SYTY game since I still have the Syclone, but soon I'm only going to have one garage space so I don't think my next truck will be a TY. I'll get something with thicker bumpers to daily drive and park on the street without worries. My commute has a bunch of loonies talking, texting, weaving in and out of traffic while everyone is bumper to bumper. Most of them are large SUV's which isnt a fair match for anyone in a smaller vehicle.

I wouldn't want to DD a rare vehicle in the city everyday durring traffic. I will want to get a Typhoon again in the future, but will wait till I have more garage space so I don't have to park it on the street. I'll call insurance today and let them know I'll keep it. If anyone local wants it let me know.

When you call ask for a lower buyback. All they can say is no. I bought back a total loss and got 300 knocked off just by asking!

Take the cladding off at least. Rear passenger side!

I would hate to see it get crushed with it on :(

I have been a member of USAA since 1988 and can attest to their professionalism. They are a private insurance/investment company that restricts who they insure and thus, takes excellent care of their clients.

Sad to see such a clean Ty destroyed....why can't this happen to a rust bucket example instead?

Definitely buy it back, Matt. If you decide to part it yourself (you could easily double your money on this), I would be interested in buying both rocker cladding pieces, PS rear corner, steering wheel with center button, instrument cluster and bezel, glove box lid and center console.

Either way, all the best in moving forward.

Re: Another Totaled Typhoon

Sucks what happened, but glad you decided to keep it. Also glad that I have USAA and my TY insured by them haha

People say that, but when it comes time to do it, everyone will low ball and complain about price, only to leave him with a truck no one will buy and that he doesn't want to fix.
