Best head bolt on application?

I am rebuilding a spare 4.3 so that I have an assembled bottom end to back up my stock powerplant that is pushing 147K

Engine will have Federal Mogul forged pistons, eagle rods and a 4 bolt main conversion. Nothing crazy, just sound bottom end.

My question is heads:
I have seen some posts, especially by jwaller that is saying 300.00 for the heads and 500.00 for the intake modifications. I can't justify that much and the time down (daily driver).

What is the best avenue for bolt on heads that accept stock Ty intake?
I have the heads from this spare 4.3 TBI engine, and the facility to port and polish on them. I also have access to manley valves. Am I going to be best off to have a machine shop 3 angle valve job these heads and port and gasket match them for the best benefit.

Opinions?

I now have core intakes and heads in stock ready to go in almost every configuration. if you do a package deal I will give you a better price structure.

HTH.

L35's are a good first upgrade. I wouldnt waste any time of energy in stock heads.

L35's in stock configuration?

Vortecs and lower intake modified and ready to go?

Prices for the above?

Did anyone ever do the cross section on a stock head like Myclone did on the Vortec? I couldnt find it in search.

I don't think the stock heads are worth cutting up to research even.

In my case I am in the same boat, moneywise.
Stock block so I am not ready to build a motor and I want bolt on heads with some benefit over stock.
I am doing L35s ported polished with back cut valves, 3 angle valve job, new seals, stiffer springs, and 1.6 stamped steel rockers.

Now if I had some decent funding the story would be WAY different.

L35s are a cheap bolt on that requires no intake mods.

Other than port matching which isn't required but is recommended with any head swap.

I'd bet theres a couple dozen sets within a few miles of you.

Your local boneyards will have them, check for screw in studs. Not the only identifiable feature, but I would consider it a must when replacing stockers.
Mine are GM casting # 14099064.
'92 & '93 CPI head (L35 type) have four possible casting nos. available #10238181, 10077626, 14099064, & 10240209
that all have an 8 degree top angle cut in the ports and screw-in rocker studs, with the top of the ports having a small circular cutout for the injector holes in the intake manifold.

Check out this post, it has a bunch of info on head #s.
