i dont think on the 1/2 shafts you can just pull them and drive it , someone could correct me if im mistaken. but i think the inner part of the shaft they bolt to are only held in by internal snap rings which would allow the to pop out while driving. anyone know if im correct in my thinking here.

hey willyson , any word from waller about your truck ?? your not keeping secrets are you ?? lol................
If they weren't spinning it wouldn't matter... I guess that means propshaft too

Re: High Speed vibration issue

I had this same issue with my Ty. Mine would vibrate from 60 to 80 and then smooth out a little past that real smooth at 100. I took proshaft out and took stock wheels off. Put IROC wheels on that were good wheels. Drove it and it ran smooth and did a couple burnouts. Had PS balanced and bought another set of stockers/tires from Sy owner that lives close by. Put shaft back in and new wheels on. Drove out fine until I get up to 65 and then it begins, but not as bad as before. Ty166 I feel your pain, mine shook villently like you describe about yours. I plan on putting the IROC wheels back on someday to see if it still is wheels. I too am discusded with a truck not enjoyable to drive.

Re: High Speed vibration issue

a couple years back someone posted a old thread about this but i cant seem to findit anywhere. it was a really good thread , but it turned out to be balance problem on the rims and the fact they needed to be lug-eccentric balanced not hub ecentric balance. i thinking about getting rid of this truck but i wont let it go if its got problems. thats my whole problem with this truck i think , its done this from day one , but for the price i couldnt pass it up , and i've tried so much to fix it and nothing seems to work. to pissed off with it to enjoy it. so now i need to fix it and either love it or dump it , when its fixed id have to be very impressed with it not to dump it.
but you are yet another with the same problem with stock wheels........... im starting to see a pattern.

Re: High Speed vibration issue

You really can't sell it with the problem, but if you fix it, you won't want to sell it....
Catch 22, if I have ever seen one.

Heck, if he's going to burn the truck I'll take it off his hands... and if I can fix the vibration, so be it

It was on the 4x4 s10's , I think only on certain models. It was on the frame for all of them, but the Ty's didn't have the stabilizer

Re: High Speed vibration issue

I loosened one of the 1/2 shafts (passenger front) and some fluid came outta there. Do i need to put fluid back in there and if so what kind?

Re: High Speed vibration issue

Have someone drive behind you when you are getting the vibration, turned out my pass side rear rim was bent, so I got new ones, havent seen if the problem is totally gone due to other "issues" Same as everyone else though from about 55-60 up to 85, then smooth sailing. I just looked at it as an excuse to do 85, that and the high stall converter sucked all my mileage anyways, hehe.

Re: High Speed vibration issue

So can I pull the front halfshafts and drive around to check it out or will bad stuff happen? I already have the propshaft out. Thanks,

Larry

Re: High Speed vibration issue

Thats what the big nut on the end of the CV shaft is for. The CV shaft functions almost like a spindle on a 2wd vehicle.

Re: High Speed vibration issue

Thanks, I thought the bolts on the back of the hub would hold everything together also. That sucks.

Re: High Speed vibration issue

I have gone through this vibration CRAP for to long. My 3 series BMW, my 98 M3 now the TY. To be honest the ty is not that bad but it is there around 65 -80. Anyway this is what i have learned and it amazed me SO much.

What i did was i gave up on these joe smo places that balance the wheels on this little, old dinky machines that you can acutally move yourself because it weights like nothing. I went to a place that had the hunter balance machine. It acutally puts a load on the wheel when it is balancing the wheel. I need to do it to the ty and hopefully will after this winter. When i went to do my M3 i told the guy the story and he said we will take off a front wheel put it on the machine with the current weights that are on it without removing them and lets see if it zeros out. If both fronts zero out you dont have to pay for anything. I said hey that sounds great. I told him i had the wheels balance at least 4-5 times already so i KNOW they are going to be zered out. GUESS what NOT. Did i get laughed at. The first wheel was off a few ounces on both sides. I wanted to kill somebody. All that money everytime going to a place to have them balanced. And i am a very picky person so i would drive over an hour if need to just as long i knew the mechanic wasnt going to scratch my car or rim. I drove my M3 home going so fast i didnt care to get a ticket. I finally felt the feeling owning an M3. I am in no way ever in my life going to go anywere else to balance my wheels except to a plce that has the hunter4 machine.
