Marlboro specific parts??

bdydrpds10

Yes I drive a Typhoon.
I have been dreaming of owning a Marlboro one day but untill I win the lottery I figured maybe I can build a clone.

Who made the t-tops for the Marlboro syclones? Were they custom made? Has anyone ever sold a kit?

What kind of seats were used?

What about the back window that rolls up and down?

Re: Marlboro specific parts??

First off, its not a T-Top, its a Targa top....meaning its a one complete piece roof that comes off, not 2 seperate pieces. The roof was built from fiberglass and kevlar by ASC. The rims are Boyd Coddingtons, not in production anymore. Recaro seats, Simpson 5 point harness belts. PowerLite Back window, not in production and the last one I saw sold I believe went between $2000-3000 if I remember correctly...and the company has absolutely no interest to make more. Momo Revolution steering wheel.....very very hard to find....I have one, minus the center cushion (good luck finding a marlboro button, probably not in production), no its not for sale. Shinoda and Marlboro badging that Ive never seen available or reproduced. Rarely seen, but Marlboros did have a lightbar with them, dont know who made it, never seen a reproduction. Prompaq.....you can find them if you ask the right people. Borla exhaust...not in production, but im sure they would custom make one.....Goodyear Eagle GSC tires...i believe not in production anymore...Belltech 3" drop, brand of the fiberglass bed cover escapes me at the moment.... Guidon...thats it.....graphics can still be aquired from Graphik Concepts.....door panels were custom, but they can still be found occasionally, there werent marlboro specific...actually, theres a set here in FL on loan being used by me and MRKING to hopefully make fiberglass/CF reproductions. Sony sound system....paint was PPG hot licks red....

If you have the time and funds, it would be possible to make a *close* replica....I dont ever think you would be able to pull off a full on matching replica due to most of the stuff that makes it a Marlboro is out of production or nearly impossible to aquire unless you have seriously deep pockets or know the right contacts.

Well,,,, I'd wish you luck, BUT I kinda hope I never see a 'close' replica of a Marlboro.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Marlboro 'inspired' SY, but not anything so close that I'd wonder if it were a real one...

Wow, all that for just an extra $60k?

Re: Marlboro specific parts??

I can perhaps help out with the "Marlboro wheels" for you, but the shipping to US will probably be enormous!

See this thread

I dont know if they're still on the market because its a while since I saw them.
I'll send the seller aan email right away.
The seller wanted 5500sek for them, thats around 700-750usd

I know they are rare and all,but IMO the Marlboros are gaudy.

I'm just glad they don't have a big gay silly wing on the back.

In my world,I'd peel off all the stickers, leave on the Luxxus cover, tint the windows, and roll the stock rims

Who wouldn't want to be a rolling cigarette ad?
If I were building a clone, I'd leave the graphics off. If I were buying a real one, I'd leave them on.

If I had the money to own one, I would have tempted to replicate the graphics and pull them off the original.

Re: Marlboro specific parts??

If it were me, I would keep playing the lotto and hope to buy a real one someday. It drives me nuts to see clone or "tribute" cars. The whole tribute thing cracks me up:rotf: You tell people that they have a knockoff or wannabe car and they come back and say its a tribute. The worst are the Cobra R and GNX tributes..seeing those cars really makes me want to slug the guy who drives it

But that is just my opinion.....

Re: Marlboro specific parts??

Thanks everyone, this info helped a lot.

I don't really want to make an exact replica. I just think some of the specific Marlboro options were cool.

My plan would be to have a red syclone with the targa top, seats, harness, back window, and maybe steering wheel.

I think those boyd wheels are kind of ugly so I would probably just use some sort of black corvette rims in 17s.

The hardest part I think will be to find or make the top.

I think the back glass could be made. I'm sure I could maybe even use a similar setup on the toyotas that have the back window that rolls up and down.

Re: Marlboro specific parts??

IMO, The real draw to the Marly is the top, and the rear window, and the seating. So why make a clone?
Do your own thing, to your own taste... a clone would never be worth the amount of $ you'd put into it.

I've never cared for the graphics, personally, either. The q-forms inside, I find annoying from a foot-room standpoint.

You could get equivalent/better seats. 5-pt harness, not hard to source.
Rims, everybody's got their own personal taste. Sound system too.
You can get a Moates switcher instead of a Prompaq.

Bed cover, you can get.

The tough part, comes in mimicking the top, and rear window. I think you could fab a rear window lift system from a Blazer or Bronco or old station wagon that had a power rear window.

The top would be a fab job as well. A competent custom shop would be able to handle that, or DIY if you're good with that.

You could do this with a Ty as well.

I think a Garnet/Gray Sy with the targa roof and the rear slider window would be really cool.

Did Marlboro's have coated turbo/downpipes or is that what they all looked like new?

I personally like the truck all around. Its a theme truck, so the graphics are appropriate and fitting for early 90s styling. I think the truck is better appreciated in person, IMHO.
