I read up on the couple of conversions posted here and wanted to make sure I do this right . What porportioning valve am I to use with my ls1 front and rear brakes . Will my stock master cylinder and power steering pump work with this ? I know I need new hoses but I am trying to keep uneccessary costs down in regards to the other parts . Thanks .

you can run stock ps pump and master cylinder, and prob try the prop valve too befor you start spending money on that too. you should also get an adaptor plate for the hb cylinder so that you dont get that ugly gap on the top of it between it and the firewall. you will also need to make/modify the actuator rod that goes from the cyl to the brake pedal.

Re: My hydroboost install q ?

update I finally recieved the hydroboost unit . I thought I got ripped off since he wouldnt respond to any emails ,and a month went by, but to my suprise it showed up .Only snag I have come across with this particular ebay unit is the hydroboost master cylinder side has a I.D. of 1.60 and my stock master O.D. is 1.75 . I have to go part in hand somewhere to find a mate I supose.thats where the benefits of a complete system would come in . But for the 85 bucks so far I am happy. I will say for sure that I really like the open look this gives my engine bay .

***To be clear on installation , the inlet hose comes from the outlet of the steering pump and the outlet goes to the steering box inlet ? The return from the unit then T's into the return on the steering pump . sounds simple huh ? TIA

Cool.....this is on my 'to do' list. Toss up some pics of the installed unit when you get some.

Re: My hydroboost install q ?

The reason I want to do it is strictly to clean up the engine compartment. I'm in the middle of a major overhaul to unclutter the engine compartment as much as possible, and this will really make things come together nicely. Many that have installed them say that they feel very strange at first, but once you are used to driving with a hydroboost, brake feel and control are far superior to the stock power brakes.

Re: My hydroboost install q ?

I got a response from the seller today : "this unit if from a mid 80's chevy truck." . gee , thanks alot .I
will hit the parts store tommarrow and see if I can make progress .The main reason I am switching to hydroboost is so i dont have to worry about any vaccum issues with my brakes from the cam and my abs delete, and also to open up the accessability of my engine bay .

Re: My hydroboost install q ?

Still havent found the mating master cyl . Asking the autoparts guy to check a couple at a time per visit is slow . I did come across one that fit , but the rod from the unit stuck out a half inch to much. I have to research more into what mid 80's trucks came with hydroboost .

Re: My hydroboost install q ?

I would say that your best bet would be to look at any truck that had a diesel engine. Pretty sure those would almost all have the hydroboost in them, and then some with the big block might have also had it.

Maybe look at ome of the aftermafket MC out there, like the one from Wilwood.

Re: My hydroboost install q ?

Also, when your talking 1.60 ID and 1.75 OD above, your talking about the studs that the MC bolts onto? Or the depression between the studs where the rod goes in the center?

Maybe if the studs are spaced right, just have the MC housing turned down to match the smaller opening??

Re: My hydroboost install q ?

This is back at the top of my list and needs to completed soon . I put way too much faith in the local autoparts guys when I ordered this and figured it would be easy to find a mate .
I need 1.6 inches here .

My stock one is just to big .

I know the Turbo T Type had hydroboost - not that the master would work with your brakes - but just a thought for size??? Good luck

I've got an old Astro van a guy gave me to move it outta his yard. The 2 reasons I took it was it had a '91 4.3 in it and it came w/ HydroBoost brakes. I think the van itself is a '90 though. It was a cable company panel van thiga majigger...and I'll bet this doesn't help one damned bit....
