Looks like your getting close to putting it back in....Did you decide to stay with stock heads? Saw you were thinking of Brodix, just curious. Looking good

Nice....keep up the work, and get it all buttoned up.
Thanks:tup: I'm trying to stay motivated. Been way too long since I heard the turbo spool!

I didn't go Brodix, but I did go with nicely ported L35's. It is getting pretty close, I'm really hoping I can keep the momentum up and get her running before Febuary! :D

When I get back in town on tuesday I'm going to try and finish assembly and get here 100% ready to throw in the truck early February. Wish me luck!

Ok so its been a while since I updated, but this update will be good!

After finishing the long block and starting to bolt on accessories I got pretty eager to start getting he together, so I decided to drop in the engine the night before I left with Dave P. to FL for the Miami meet.

Went out to Miami and had a great time with the crowded out there. I gained a bunch more SYTY knowledge and some tuning tips also. I decided when I get home I would just keep going till its driving.

When I got home I immediately started working on it day after day had some help from a couple local friends along with advice from Dave and even more help from Rexxenex. Last week I was able to start it for the first time and then drive it up and down the street that weekend.

And here she is sitting happily in her home...

Sorry about the crummby video, and excuse the power steering pump, but she really sounds pretty mean! :D

Now I have to go out of town again for work before I can finish up, then its time to learn tuning better and begin to dial in all the little things that can take a lifetime

Looks and sounds great! One small observation, that turbo elbow on there looks pretty restrictive.. Can you mellow it out somehow?

Yea, we will see how much I trust it, lol. I think it should be fairly reliable so we will see :)

Thanks, i really love the sound of it, sounds more agressive than i would have thought! As far as the restriction are you talking about the inlet elbow, or the ones going into the intercooler?
schweeeet Im right where your at (tuning)
Yea, just another challenge ahead of us. :) I'm just going to study up on it some more while I'm outta town.

100% SICK! Can't wait to see it again fully together. ;)
Thanks, I'm pretty excited! I'll be giving you a call when I get back in town. Thanks for all of the help you gave me with the truck

NICE... Let the tuning begin. :)
Yepp, im looking foreward to it. I heard you were able to connect data master

Thanks, your vac kit worked out well! Ill most likely do another meet when its all finished. It will be nice to have a meet while I actually have a working truck.:D

Re: Quinnster's Syclone 2208 Rebuild

What paint did you use on the manifolds and how's it holding up? You had it running recently? Looks great.

I'm about to undertake a similar endeavour and want to tidy up my engine and frame. What did you do in terms of prep and paint exactly?

Finally, I really like your wheels. What are they?

Thanks!

Sorry for not responding earlier. This was my first engine and vehicle restoration so I don't believe what I used was the best, but I'll share what I did do and what I think I should have done differently.

On the Exhaust manifolds I asked the company what paint they used on the Turbine side of the turbo so all of my exhaust colors would match which they did, but It seemed like 20% of it burned off in the first few miles. If I were to do it again It would be better to have it baked on there, or ceramic coated professionally for longevity, but it still looks pretty good how I did it, just not perfect.

Then for the frame I used the spray paint version of truck bed coating. It also worked pretty good, but If I were to do it again I would probably use POR-15 since everyone has such good luck with it and helps stop rust. But also at the same time as long as the frame is painted black it looks better!

And here's the stuff I used to paint the engine. I used the low gloss black for the oil pan, the silver for the Aluminum parts and gloss black for the rest. and all of that paint is holding up perfect!:D

Then the wheels I like and don't at the same time. They are made by OE Wheels and are 17" Z06 replicas. What I do like about them is the look although I may power coat them black now, but what I don't like is that I need to buy a wheel spacer to make the offset right, and I used to have a 12" wide tread width in the rear with my last set up, and when I went with these narrower wheels I sacrificed how well the truck used to do in the corners, but my old wheels were ugly on the truck!

As far as after it getting stolen I haven't got to work on it as much as I would have liked to, but I have been taking my time and getting every thing 100% buttoned up before I start driving it again. I have been thinking of getting all the parts together and once I got them all taking a week of vacation days from work and get her done!
This is where she sits currently.

I decided it would be a good idea to take of the majority of the interior and hide my alarm, relocate my battery, run my stereo, WBO2 wires, Alky wires, ect and sound dampen the interior while I'm at it.

Good luck on your project, I hope it goes well and gets done with less hangups than mine did.

Anyways I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Re: Quinnster's Syclone 2208 Rebuild

Great thread.

What'd you use to clean \ prep \ paint the frame?

Thanks, I just used a combo of acetone, gasoline, and brake cleaner along with wire brushes and rags. Then truck bed liner spray for coating the frame. Noting too fancy, but it worked!

Re: Quinnster's Syclone 2208 Rebuild

OKK!!!
Finally going to start updating again after a year or so!
Last year I was out of town 250 days and barely had any time to pay attention to the truck since I never had any time. Then this year I was pretty busy up until a couple months ago, so I got back on it.

After it got stolen I pulled out the whole interior and went through everything, straightened out wiring, pre wired for my stereo so I don't have to pull up the carpet again and sound deadened the floor, back wall, doors and ceiling.

I put it all back together for a while and was driving it every now and then, but the paint on it always bothered me. It wasn't terrible but the roof was chipping and the hood was faded. I decided I would pull the trigger and spend the $$ and get it done. So I pulled off the cladding and about 10lbs of dirt!

Even though the cladding all looked good on the outside there were things that needed fixing all over, so I spent a fair amount of time fixing it all up.

I always loved hard tonneau's more than the other styles so I contacted Gaylords Lids and had them make me a custom one which looks awesome, but no pictures of it yet. I do have pics of the carpet kit I test fit and I was a great fit.

I liked the look of the wheels I had on it, but I really wanted to have that 12.5" rear tire width so I found a set of the 90's ZR1's had them refinished and put tires on them. They are now just awaiting the truck to get back.

Now it sits at the painters. He says it has been painted and is now just awaiting the color sanding and buffing. I haven't seen the truck in a month now due to conflicting work schedules, but from what he makes it sound like I'll get it back this coming weekend to start putting back together. I'm finally getting a bit closer after 3 years!

Awesome! I know how you feel being away from it. What work are you doing that is keeping you so busy?

Re: Quinnster's Syclone 2208 Rebuild

I was installing those 4D motion movie theaters along with custom automation like fountain shows, or museum exhibits. I just got a new job though in town designing Air Cargo containers so I have more time to work on projects, but I am bored out of my mind!! I'm probably going to end up back as a Field Tech. I'm going to have to do the 4L80 sometime coming up here and I'll probably pick your brain a bit Mark since you did the swap right?
