Re: Quinnster's Syclone 2208 Rebuild

Yup, I did an 80e swap. Happy to help if I can! Mine is busted at the moment due to what I believe was a cheap torque converter and subsequent blocking of the valve body so I lost 1st and 3rd.

A new TC from Circle D is on my shopping list along with a rebuild kit. I wrote a thread about the install and have a few updates for it.

What are you thinking 80e wise? Main thing is to get the 4x4 version and cut the output shaft - may involve you getting a different input shaft for the transfer case, or you may need to get a hold of the correct output shaft so that you can rebuild the 80e so it will fit the Sy transfer case.

Happy to help any way I can.

Thanks Mark, I'll pick your brain some more when it comes time. I'll probably start collecting parts and building it so when I do eventually kill the 700R4 the down time wont be quite as bad. Hopefully I can still track down all the parts.

Looking good!

I like that carpeted bed!

Thanks! Thats one of the first things I'm going to throw install when I get her back today. Gaylords still manufactures them if you want one. Its a perfect fit, a little on the expensive side though.

Took it home and pulled the spindles off to modify for the Wilwood front brakes that are going on it. I would have been lazy and left them as is for a while but somehow one of the calipers seized so it was time. While I'm in there Ill replace the A-arm bushing tie-rods and ball joints. They are only 22 years old now! I should hopefully have the brakes put back on this weekend.

Hey Matt, it's Robert from the meet. Haven't had a chance to post up on your thread yet, so I just wanted to say that it looks awesome. Can't wait to see it in person!

Thanks, I need to take it to a meet soon, but everytime I decide to work on it I find 20 other things that need to be done!! The joys of owning a 20 year old truck

As the truck sits right now I have the Upper and lower A-arms pulled off and am replacing the dry rotted Bushings, the upper and lower balljoints, The tie rod ends, wheel bearings, and installing the belltech lowering keys. and all of that steamed down from doing a big brake kit! It all needed to be done anyways, and I will feel much better about it.

Planing on getting it back on the road by the end of this weekend, then letting the painted buff it now that the paints a little more cured. Then start putting the cladding back on.

Trust me, I know how it goes. When I started installing my coilovers on the Syclone, I upgraded the brakes, the motor mounts, the diff mounts, etc. It was neverending.

My Camaro is sitting on jackstands waiting for me to install the new rear end, suspension, and wheels/tires. It's all finally here, so now I have to actually do it.

Either way, good luck and hopefully we will have both of our rides at the next get together.

Re: Quinnster's Syclone 2208 Rebuild

Ok, It doesn’t look like a whole lot has been done since last update, but it’s the small things that take the longest! I started doing my big brake conversion in the front and found dry rotted bushings so figured I had to replace those. Then that led to ball joints and tie-rods which led to torsion bar mounts, ect, ect. We all know the drill!

These arent the wheels staying on the truck, but the 13" brakes fit soo nicely behind the 17" tire

Mounted the Tonneau cover and installed the carpet kit. Still have to put LED's in the bed (trunk).

Finally got the whole front end put back together, washed it and called the painter to do the final buff now that its more cured. I have been desperately wanting to get the rest of the cladding back on so I can drive it again.

Goal is to be driving it over the weekend but we will see. Getting closer!

That truck is badass.

What did you do to your A arms? I am thinking of doing the same thing - blast and paint them and then new ball joints etc. I have new calipers but they are stock for now.

What bushings did you go with? ES or PST? Or stock rubber?

Looks great. I LOVE the bed. Looks fantastic, the whole thing is grea!.

Thanks man! I went with energy suspension for every bushing in the truck except the torsion bar mount and rear leafs, but I think the belltech leafs I still have to install have the poly bushings.

The A arms were sand blasted and painted with engine enamel. It seems like it will hold up well. I was thinking of POR-15 but I had the enamel so I just went with it. The ball joints and Tie-Rods were Moog.

I like the direction the truck is going. Simple with some subtleties to be a little different. No where near a pristine truck like some on here but hopefully a pretty quick, clean and reliable lil truck. Can't wait to get the rest of the cladding on!

Re: Quinnster's Syclone 2208 Rebuild

Saturday the painter finished buffing the truck so I got the ok to install the cladding. Got most the truck together over the weekend, just have the front bumper, front left arch and a new windshield. Then the exterior is done!! :D Next will be clean up the engine bay a bit and the interior.

Thanks Man! I went with the shaved tailgate because I feel like it nicely cleans up the back of the truck. I don't like shaved door handles personally though. Also I guess it would prevent anyone from trying to open the tailgate while the tonneau cover is locked.

Re: Quinnster's Syclone 2208 Rebuild

I love the bed cover. Looks awesome with that lip spoiler. Where Sia you get that ? Tapatalk

The Bed cover was custom made by Gaylords Lids, they agreed to it then later found out they didn't have a mold for a first gen S10 and had to custom make it. It ended up being much more difficult and time consuming than they thought. I do like it though!

And for an update. I have gotten the cladding all on and mostly squared away. I'm going to try and get the front bumper on straighter. Have been cleaning it up and messing with a few random things here and there. Just need to replace the master cylinder that I just found out was bad and I can start driving it again!
