Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

So I still have not gotten the typhoon back after being told I would nearly two weeks ago. It's been almost 3 months now. My patience is getting very thin here. I really don't want to go in with a bad attitude to get this thing back but I really feel the time it's taken to get it back isn't acceptable. Especially when I was told 2 weeks ago that all that was left was getting the right weighted servo in. I will more then likely stop in today but any advice what I should say? He already said I can take it but would have to bring it back in spring to get finished correctly, and I really do not prefer that method, and more then likely he will say he will have it done end of week which I've been told numerous time over and over again..

Btw last time I was in he said I was 400 I owe now for labor! I don't understand how I have to pay them even more when is wasn't right the first time they gave it to me. 3400$ for a freaking 700r4

Awww man... seriously? That sucks and is unfortunately why people either do it themselves or pay for a known builder to fix the transmission.

There's no way I'd be paying the $400 by the way. If he didn't fix it first time, he's responsible for all the ensuing costs.

The servo issue is an easy fix. You can figure that out from other forums. I'd probably take it and do it myself, or ask another trans shop how big a deal a servo is. 3 months is taking the piss.

The typhoon, cant believe im saying this.. is finally home!!!!!
will have to go back in spring due to 4th gear engaging at 53mph and he wants it lower, but I asked him is it ok to drive and he said it was.. I paid and he brought it around.. he is not charging me anymore for the change of servo which I do have on written paper. its so nice to be back home again.

I am not a trans expert, but from what I do know (or believe I do) the servo does NOT control shift points. The governor does that.

It is the governor where you swap out the weight or springs or both to get your shift points. It must be nice to have the ty back though !!

My Syclone's modified 4l60 transmission shifts into OD at 55mph. (Shifts back to 3rd around 40mph). I want to say my stock syclone transmission shifted into 4th at 45mph. I put a trans go shift kit into my Corvette 700r4 and it delayed my shift into 4th. I finally figured out it was the shift kits larger 3-4 accumulator springs. I would probably just leave it as is rather than mess around with governor.

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

So I stopped back into the shop last Friday to schedule the day to have the transmission finished. I was told stop in 3 weeks ahead of time so they are for sure open to have it in and out. Ended up talking to the owners wife, she informed me that Ron the guy that I've been dealing with quit and is no longer there. She looked me up in records and there is no past history with me in the system... That put me on edge... I told her the trans is not done, they were to busy to finish it and that's why I'm back in now to get it finished. She found paperwork only of the job done but nothing saying that I'm supposed to return and have it finished. And that's when I snapped... She called her husband and sure enough he remembers everything because he's the one that broke my cladding off. Now scheduled to go in Monday april 6 to have it worked on. They promised me it would be done before 3 when I'm off work. So we'll see how well this goes. Nothing but issues from this transmssion shop

So why don't you take it somewhere else? You could have dealt with a SYTY member or vendor and been on the road by now. That's a day job for anyone who has all the parts.

Mainly because of warranty.. If I take it somewhere else I'll have to pay for all parts all over again besides labor.. I've already really considered that.

the thought of you saying you went with them because of the warranty now puts you at the mercy of having to go back eh? steve mentioned a good tranny guy that did his, i know its to late now but did you consider it? or was it just to far from ya up there?

Re: Think I just blew my first transmission..what now

I went to the current shop because they were close to me and I could watch progress, they said they have worked on these syty trans before, and the price originally is why I went to them. Looking back I wish I took it to Chicago but at time I didn't think I'd rack this much up on a trans.. Sad part is when I bought my teal typhoon, I found a business card in there from the place I been dealing with.

Can finally close this thread.. For now....

Dropped the typhoon off this morning and picked it up when I was off work, they did what they needed and didn't charge me anymore. Now I can finally enjoy it again

Ugh couldn't last could I..

I took the typhoon out for some tuning last night and it's picking up crazy knock in boost. Ive never had knock ever.. I didn't change anything over winter besides fresh plugs wores and gas. I could hear a random knock on occasion, which led me to believe it ate a bearing. So be safe I lifted up the truck and got I underneath. The sound is def coming from either the flexplate or the converter. I've heard the flexplates cracking but was the sound kinda random? Is there a way I can check before I pull this all back apart again? I'll try to get a video in a bit. Is a possible cracked flexplate my issue for lots of knock?
